Ghana’s youth centered urban radio brand, YFM is at it again with the 3rd edition of the nation’s most sought after battle of DJs dubbed ‘Y Clash of the DJs.’
The Y Clash of the DJs was birthed as a result of the YFM’s quest to entertain its listeners during the heightened period of the Covid-19 pandemic. It is a battle between Ghana’s A-list DJs across the triangle, comprising of Y107.9FM in Accra, Y102.5FM in Kumasi and Y97.9FM in Takoradi. This competition will field DJs from the YFM triangle against each other in head-to-head electrifying themed battles challenging DJs on selection, transitions, mixes, rhythm and pulse.
Adding a new twist to this year’s event, the brand has placed the unveiling of DJs in the hands of the public. Unlike previous editions where the DJs were unveiled to the public, YFM as usual has added a fun twist to the 2022 edition of the clash.
Fans are required to correctly predict the hot squads representing the brands of the Y-Triangle (Y97.9FM-Takoradi, Y107.9FM-Accra and Y102.5FM- Kumasi). With each squad being represented by 3 of their top DJs, listeners and the public will have to correctly predict the 9 DJs appearing in the clash.
Making the contest more fun, the individual who correctly predicts the all 9 DJs will enjoy an all-expense paid trip to the finals of the clash happening live at the Takoradi Mall.
Head of the Y Triangle (Y107.9FM, Y97.9FM and Y102.5FM), Osei Kuffour commenting on this promo indicated, “we are all about having fun and at the same time incorporating our listeners and public into our production and what best way to do this for the clash by asking the public to correctly name all DJs partaking in the contest. Just as the competition is going to be keen in the clash, this predict and win promo will be more of a precursor to the main event. It will be exciting to see the correct prediction correspond to the hot squad to win the clash. Good luck to all the predictors, this is going to be fun.”
With the third edition dubbed, “One Sound, One Tribe,” the Y Clash of the DJs seeks to provide the platform to promote the uniqueness of our culture, our distinguished tourism, our high sense of fashion and everything that gives us our identity as Ghanaians through music.
Unlike the previous editions, this year’s Y Clash of the DJs will create an unparalleled atmosphere, the first of its kind. Prior to the main event, there would be mini pop-up shows at varied locations as 5-star DJs from YFM will give a glimpse experience of the actual event.
This year’s DJs battle will take place in six rounds where each radio station will delegate a rep from their 3-member team to represent them. Each round has been labeled as; Hip Hop Reggae and Dancehall, Made In Ghana, Throwback, Afrobeats then finally Freestyle. Afterwards, the adept panel of judges will score each DJ at the end of each round.
The event slated for April, 14 will see Y Takoardi hit the tunes as first with the “Made in Ghana” round followed by Y Kumasi and Accra respectively. While Y Kumasi play the first sound for the “Afro Pop round followed by Y Takoradi and Accra, with the third round of Throwback music, Y Kumasi starts as Y Accra and Takoradi follows and gradually the rounds will unfold.
