Republic Bank Ghana, a subsidiary of Republic Financial Holdings Limited, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and Korle Klotey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) for beautification of AU Square.

The Managing Director of Republic Bank, Mr. Farid Antar, expressed his excitement about the partnership and, most importantly, Republic Bank’s involvement in the ‘Beautification of Accra’ project championed by the AMA. He further assured the parties of the bank’s commitment to maintenance of AU Square, which is situated opposite the bank’s flagship building – Republic Court.

According to Mr. Antar, adopting AU Square is in line with the bank’s CSR strategy of supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on Climate Action (SDG 13).  He also added that Republic Bank, a bank from Trinidad and Tobago – a diasporan country, is proud to be associated with such an iconic edifice of Africa.  “As a bank from Trinidad and Tobago – a country birthed during the transatlantic slave trade, we take pride in our African lineage. We are therefore happy to be associated with AU Square, a symbol of African Unity, a reminder of who we are as Africans and a beacon of Hope for Africa and our descendants,” Mr. Antar added.

The Mayor of Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Mohammed Adjei Sowah, signed the MoU on behalf of the Assembly. In his brief remarks, he thanked the Republic Bank team for the gesture in supporting the Assembly’s Accra Beautification Project. According to him, signing the MoU is a remarkable progress in the Assembly’s vision of seeing Accra as the most beautiful and cleanest city in Africa. He took the opportunity to encourage other corporate organisations to come on board.

Also present at the signing event were the Chief Operating Officer-Republic Bank, Mr. Benjamin Dzoboku; Municipal Chief Executive of Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly, Samuel James Adjei Tawiah; CEO of Mullen Lowe, Mrs. Norkor Duah; Director of Parks and Gardens, Reverend Okine; and Head of International Relations-Special Projects, AMA, Jennifer Brockes.
