The Ghana Bankers Association has donated 72 hand-washing materials to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital as part of efforts to fight the deadly coronavirus pandemic at the country’s premier health facility. The items include what has been termed Veronica buckets, metal stands, and washing sinks which can be directly connected to a water source.

Donating the items to the hospital, Managing Director of the Republic Bank, Farid Antar, said the gesture is a project the association has embarked on to donate the enhanced hand-washing materials worth GH¢400,000 to all teaching hospitals across the country to help them improve on preventive measures against the coronavirus pandemic.

He further expressed the association’s appreciation for the good work that both the frontline staff and administration of the hospital is doing to combat the pandemic, urging them not to give up in their efforts. “Thank you all for the great works that you are doing on the frontline to save our lives. We encourage you to keep it up,” he said.

CEO of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Daniel Asare, who received the items on behalf of the hospital, also expressed appreciation to the Ghana Bankers Association for adding the hospital to its list of beneficiaries during these difficult times. He said the items will be used even beyond the post-coronavirus period to create awareness about the importance of hand-washing in fighting diseases.

“These items will help prevent a lot of infections among the staff and also prevent our patients from hospital-acquired infections when they visit here. So we are very grateful for this gesture and we hope that we can fall on you anytime there is the need for any assistance,” he said.

The Ghana Bankers Association assured health centres across the country of its support toward fighting the deadly pandemic.
