Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, has disclosed that the Akufo-Addo administration’s ambitious 111 hospital Agenda will commence in August 2021.

It would be recalled that Health Minister, Mr. Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, stated earlier in February that the administration intended to construct 111 district hospitals across the country.

Each of the hospitals was estimated to cost between $5 million and $7 million—putting the total cost  at $707 million.

Agyeman-Manu’s disclosure was on the back of President Akufo-Addo’s pledge to Ghanaians that his administration would put up 88 hospitals.

Presenting the 2021 mid-year budget review in Parliament on Thursday, July 29, 2021, Ofori-Atta said the construction of the 111 hospitals was to be done in two phases and the first phase had been completed.

“Mr Speaker, government and the project coordinating team have worked tirelessly on phase one, and I am happy to report that pre-contract works have now been completed for 88 sites for the district hospitals. Mr Speaker, we expect to commence phase two (construction to begin) three weeks from now, from 17th August 2021,” he told Parliament.

The government, he stated had already engaged over 20 local consulting firms through a lead project consultant to provide architectural, engineering designs, and project management support for the execution of the project.
