In a bold move to nurture a generation of purpose-driven and values-based leaders, the Young Investors Network (YIN) has kicked off its SkillsUp Campus Training Program with a dynamic and thought-provoking virtual session on Ethical Leadership & Values.

Held via Google Meet, the event marked the beginning of a transformative journey to equip students across Ghana with essential life, leadership, and career skills that transcend the classroom.

Themed “Ethical Leadership & Values: Shaping Leaders of Integrity for a Brighter Future,” the inaugural session featured renowned academic and student mentor, Prof. Michael Nana Owusu-Akomeah, Dean of Student Affairs at Ghana Communication Technology University, as the keynote speaker.

Prof. Owusu-Akomeah delivered an insightful presentation on the evolving demands of ethical leadership, stressing the importance of integrity, transparency, fairness, and honesty. “Ethical leadership means guiding people to achieve targets through the right actions within a community,” he stated, highlighting the need for authenticity and vision in leadership roles.

The session distinguished leadership from management with clarity: “Leaders do the right things, while managers do things right,” Prof. Owusu-Akomeah noted. Participants also explored relevant theories such as McGregor’s Theory X and Y and how generational shifts impact workplace behavior and leadership expectations.

As part of the program, students were introduced to the opportunity to earn a Professional Development Certificate in Ethical Leadership & Values by meeting three key requirements; Participating in the training session; Engaging in a capstone campus experience; and Completing a final assessment.

The ethical leadership training is the first in a six-module series under YIN’s broader “Skills for the Future” framework, which is being implemented through its flagship Skills4Success Initiative.

This initiative is designed to prepare YIN club members for real-world challenges by blending soft skills, technical know-how, and personal growth into one dynamic learning experience.

Program Objectives Include:

  • Empowering participants with the right mix of hard and soft skills for career and entrepreneurial growth.
  • Hands-on training through workshops, simulations, and real-life case studies.
  • Leadership development to equip students for impactful roles in their schools and communities.
  • Mentorship and networking opportunities with industry experts.
  • Holistic personal growth including emotional intelligence and conflict resolution.

With its hybrid delivery model, the SkillsUp Training Program is being implemented through monthly and quarterly sessions combining virtual masterclasses, in-person bootcamps, mentorship check-ins, and campus-based challenges. A final inter-campus skills competition will give participants the chance to showcase what they’ve learned and gain national recognition.

A representative from YIN emphasized the program’s mission:

“The future demands ethical leaders who can inspire, act with integrity, and drive positive change. Through this program, we’re building a community of young professionals ready to lead with purpose.”

YIN’s long-standing commitment to youth empowerment through financial literacy, leadership training, and professional development continues to gain momentum across Ghana.

From investment education programs and internships to national stock market competitions, the organization remains a pillar of transformative youth engagement.

With the ongoing implementation of the SkillsUp Campus Training Program, YIN continues to affirm its dedication to empowering Ghana’s future leaders—not just to succeed, but to lead with values, courage, and integrity.
