Former Minister for Food and Agriculture and current Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has announced the formation of an exploratory committee to assess the viability of a potential leadership bid within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In a public statement issued on Wednesday, Dr. Acheampong revealed that the decision follows “growing encouragement from a broad spectrum of party faithful” and extensive consultations with his family and close associates.

“I have taken time to reflect deeply on our journey as a Party and on my personal journey within our political tradition. I recognise that the New Patriotic Party finds itself at a pivotal juncture which calls not only for unity but also for a renewed commitment to our core values,” he stated.

According to him, the exploratory committee will engage key stakeholders across the party’s structures, including grassroots members and constituents, to assess whether his vision aligns with the aspirations of the NPP and the Ghanaian people.

“To that end, the exploratory committee is expected to share its findings with me within four weeks,” he disclosed.

Dr. Acheampong emphasised that the committee’s focus would be rooted in addressing core national and party development areas such as job creation, food security, youth and infrastructure development, safety and security, and good governance.

“This dedicated committee shares my commitment not only to discipline and unity within the Party but also to job creation, food security, youth and infrastructure development, safety and security and good governance within our nation,” he noted.

Reflecting on his personal and political journey within the NPP, Dr. Acheampong described his service as “lifelong and deeply personal,” recounting his early days as a grassroots organizer to becoming a four-term Member of Parliament, Minister of State, Cabinet Minister, and long-time party financier.

“These roles and experiences have granted me invaluable insights into the sacrifices, dedication, and strategic vision required to build and sustain the foundations of our Party. They have also deepened my resolve to uphold the NPP’s values with unwavering loyalty and integrity,” he said.

He further reiterated his commitment to the party, highlighting his contributions over the years: “I have served the NPP faithfully, supported many and helped shape impactful policies. Everything within me and every resource at my disposal have been put to the service of the party and I will continue to serve.”

Addressing party members, particularly the base, Dr. Acheampong urged unity and resilience in the face of current challenges. “To our footsoldiers and all NPP faithful, I firmly believe in the Party’s capacity to overcome its challenges and once again lead Ghana towards a brighter future.

“May we remain steadfast in spirit and decorous in conduct in the pursuit of progress, inclusivity, and effective leadership for Ghana,” he said.
