The German Development Cooperation (GIZ) has supported the Insurance Awareness Coordinators Group (IACG) Secretariat with crucial office infrastructure, valued at GH¢130,000.
For the past eight years, GIZ Ghana has been the host for the IACG. The recent handover, held at the newly established offices of the IACG in Accra, signifies a substantial leap forward in augmenting the operational capabilities of the IACG Secretariat, heralding a stride toward a sustainable future.
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation, spearheaded this initiative.
The event underscored a fortified partnership and a shared dedication to fostering insurance awareness and education in Ghana.
It signals the transformation of IACG into an entity characterised by a functional secretariat supported by diverse funding sources. The sustained operation of IACG is poised to bolster insurance growth while enlightening the populace and businesses on the advantages of insurance.
A pivotal moment during the ceremony was the symbolic signing of the certificate of donation and the exchange of a laptop between Dr. Christian Jahn of GIZ and Wilson Tei from the IACG.
Dr. Jahn said: “This collaboration transcends mere provision of tools; it lays the groundwork for IACG to evolve into an autonomous organisation, fostering a more knowledgeable and insured Ghana”.
Echoing Dr. Jahn’s sentiment, Mr. Tei underscored the projected impact. “With these resources, we can enhance our endeavours to educate Ghanaians about insurance, a vital component for financial security and resilience”. Recent statistics underline the urgency of such initiatives, revealing that only a fraction of Ghana’s populace currently holds insurance, despite the vast and largely untapped potential market for insurance services.
This initiative stands as a testament to the transformative power of strategic partnerships aligned with national development objectives, with the overarching aim of significantly bridging the insurance gap in the country.
