A three-member delegation from the Cameroon Shippers Council (CNSC) paid a courtesy call on the new Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) on Monday, 4th March 2024.
The delegation, led by Faliki Aicha, Assistant Director of Trade Facilitation at the CNSC, also included Lewono Mbassi Marguenle, Export Promotion Officer, and Garba Houdou, Client Service and Standardisation Officer.
Both organizations deliberated on matters of mutual interest and committed to collaborating to protect and promote the interests of shippers not only in their respective countries but also in the sub-region.
The meeting highlighted concerns regarding charges of shipping services providers, collaboration within the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), trade exhibitions for shippers, data sharing, and the cost of doing business in both countries.
The CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Baffour Okyere Sarpong, underscored the importance of collaboration in boosting the socio-economic fortunes of both countries. His submission further outlined opportunities provided by AfCFTA for African countries leapfrog. He called for deliberate measures to guide trade on the continent and stressed the importance of African states consenting to continental standards to support AfCFTA trade and facilitate intra-African trade among shippers.
The visiting group had the opportunity to learn some operational activities of the GSA and requested regular data sharing to support shippers across both countries.
