Lawyer Bobby Banson launches book on commercial arbitration

In a move set to significantly impact the legal landscape of Ghana, Lead Partner at the Robert Smith Law Group, Lawyer Bobby Banson has unveiled his latest literary endeavor, a comprehensive guide titled ‘Commercial Arbitration in Ghana- Practice and Procedure’.

The launch event, held at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra, brought together legal luminaries, scholars, students, and practitioners eager to delve into the intricacies of commercial dispute resolution.

In the book, Mr. Banson puts together the most widely accepted procedure for commercial arbitration; as indicated in the rules of arbitration of the two foremost arbitration centers in Ghana as well as decisions from the Ghana Courts, to provisions in the Alternative Dispute Resolution Act, 2010, Act 798.

Bobby Banson, revered for his expertise in arbitration and alternative dispute resolution (ADR), has long been a trailblazer in advocating for the advancement of legal frameworks in Ghana. With his new book, he aims to demystify the complexities surrounding commercial arbitration, providing a roadmap for practitioners, businesses, and policymakers alike.

During his address at the launch, Banson emphasized the critical importance of efficient dispute resolution mechanisms in fostering a conducive environment for business growth and investment. He remarked, “In an increasingly interconnected global economy, the ability to resolve commercial disputes swiftly and effectively is paramount. Through this book, I seek to empower stakeholders with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the complexities of arbitration in Ghana.”

“Arbitration as a means of settling disputes has always been with us. It has been used to settle disputes by traditional authorities. It has been used to settle commercial disputes. One major advantage of arbitration is the autonomy of parties to select the rules that will govern the proceedings in the arbitration,” said Bobby Banson.

Speaking at the launch, Chairman of the event, Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo, lauded Banson’s dedication to promoting excellence in commercial dispute resolution. He remarked, “Bobby Banson’s commitment to advancing the field of arbitration in Ghana is truly commendable. His book not only enriches our understanding of commercial arbitration but also underscores the importance of robust legal frameworks in facilitating economic development.”

Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Richard Adjei Frimpong who was the Guest of Honour for the event emphasized the pivotal role of arbitration in fostering a business-friendly environment. He commended Bobby Banson indicating that the book is a comprehensive guide that provides invaluable insights to the growth and stability of Ghana’s business landscape.

The book is intended to serve as a handbook to guide students and arbitration practitioners in their quest to appreciate the rules of arbitrations to enable them to adopt and apply the same to meet the ends of justice. The launch concluded with a book signing session, as attendees eagerly acquired copies of the book.
