Ambassador Stephen Kojo Sackey – a multifaceted advocate

Ambassador Stephen Kojo Sackey is a dedicated individual, married with three adorable children. He is a proud alumnus of Adisadel College and the University of Cape Coast, holding an Executive Master’s Business certificate in Strategic leadership and Conflict Management with Chartered Institute of Peace and Governance, USA – affiliated to Highstone International University, California – USA.

He is an associate fellow of the Institute, Global humanitarian & Premier Goodwill Peace Ambassador, a US based NGO – Project Peace Light and AHC -Inc accredited with UN Consultative Status. He is an Editor for Central Press Newspaper, based in Cape Coast – Central Region, Ghana on UN Sustainable Development Goals and a freelance journalist for other global leading media organisations for his global excellence.

Interestingly, his humility, competence, affability and unlimited undiluted high journalistic standards required by MALU of the United Nations and recommendations by highly respected UN-accredited private media – ABNC within the diplomatic arena paved way to cover the immediate past UNGA 78th session in NYC on record.

Acknowledged for his charisma, respect and confidence, he had the opportunity as a new entrant to break ice with UN Deputy Secretary of the world, Amina J. Mohammed and Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana, during the UN 78th press briefing and Q&A sessions, respectively.

That notwithstanding, he was one of the rapporteurs for the 43rd Trial-Annual Plenary World Federation of the United Nations Association WFUNA during break-up strengthening with UN by UNAs member-states session in Georgia, Tbilisi.

As part of his role as substantive National Coordinator & Director of International Relations for the WFUNA/UNA- Ghana chapter, Ambassador Stephen Kojo Sackey selflessly led the delegation to help review many draft resolutions sponsored by WFUNA/UNAs across the globe but not limited to how Senior appointments within UN systems must be regulated and sanctioned by the UNGA.

Furthermore, Ambassador Stephen is a potential postgraduate degree holder in Conflicts, Human Rights and Peace Studies from the University of Education – Winneba Campus, with enriched UN/WFUNA-related developments, enhanced special training skills in practice both virtual and in- person. Admittedly, he served as the President of the Conflicts, Human Rights, and Peace Studies Association (CHRAPSA) at the University of Education Winneba (UEW).

With over 25 years of experience, Sackey has been deeply involved in global civil society activism and global conversation, including in-person monthly dialogue UNSC chair briefings sessions with CSOs under the auspices of World Federation of the United Nations WFUNA in the headquarters of UN, NYC.

He played a foundational role in the Africa United Nations Associations networks (AUNAs) and is recognised for his extensive knowledge in international humanitarian law and human rights issues. He is acknowledged for his contributions toward United Nations Youth Association WFUNA/UNYA- Ghana Chapter as co-founder and the organisation’s maiden Youth Secretary- General,  which saw its launch and endorsement at theKofi Annan International Peace Training Center KIPTC  by leading political leaders, civil society members, high-spirited individuals, among others present at the special peace-led youth conference in the run-up to 2008 General Elections with full-fledged legal status in Ghana toward youth mobilisation and UN Youth decision-making process in line with UN resolution 2250.

Also, Ambassador Stephen Kojo Sackey is a promising star of Africa youth, reflecting the shining examples of the late Kofi Annan ­– the UN’s 7th Secretary- General; Nelson Mandela – former President of South Africa of blessed memory; and many astute diplomats at the global stage.

He is currently appointed by the Supreme Council of the United International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) – an internationally registered civil society organisation as Africa Special Envoy to the United Nations Sustainable Development and implementation AGENDA 2030 meetings and conferences organised globally due to his exceptional leadership skills and dedication.

On top of that, he serves as United Nations Associations’ Ghana Board member and on several committees, including organisations like International Association of World Peace Advocates with special UN consultative status to be their special diplomatic representative at the United Nations Headquarters for his global recognition for excellence toward many decades of undiluted service toward UN ideals and principles of the charter and the Universal Declaration.

In fact, his contributions have been honoured during the UNGA 78th High-Level Political Forum side event session organised by Africa Hope Committee Incorporated in the United States of America holding with full-fledged UN ECOSOC status as SDGs Excellence Awards 2023 category for his outstanding performance in the promotion of the UN SDGs AGENDA 2030 at a grand durbar ceremony well-attended by internationally seasoned professionals, leaders and diplomats.

His expertise extends to various global platforms, discussing critical topics such as the Death Penalty Abolishing Bill, Mental Health Patients’ rights, Russia-Ukraine war, and Africa Prosperity Dialogue series by AFCFTA, among others, under the auspices of the World Federation of United Nations WFUNA.

Promoted as the National Coordinator and Director for International Relations at the United Nations Association of Ghana (UNA-GH), Sackey has displayed selfless dedication to humanitarian causes. His previous roles include serving as the Director of Communications, steering committee member for Pan African Leadership Summit 2023, and an educator at Mfantseman Girls’ Secondary School.

Moreover, he boasts of an experience in banking and finance, health regulation in herbal medicine, and as an alternative plant medicine researcher and manufacturer. His involvement in numerous roles, such as Marketing Consultant for Mission Africa Inc. digital TV, Assistant Customer Care Officer, and Consumer Survey Manager at Aqua Vitens Rand Limited reflect his diverse skill set.

A renowned public speaker and leadership coach, Sackey has devoted 26 years to public speaking, offering pro bono services for various organisations and congregations. Additionally, his commitment to society led to the establishment of an underprivileged fund for brilliant yet needy individuals.

His engagement in international events and projects, including UN Youth Day’s events and International Democracy Day’s events, showcases his dedication to global sustainable development. Acknowledged as an international civil society organisation ambassador for Projects Peace Light, Sackey is recognised for his commitment to peace education, institutional strengthening and good governance endorsed by UN affiliated bodies.

His achievements and endearing selfless leadership have earned him recognition from numerous non-profits, non-governmental and international private organisations. Sackey holds various certifications, which include member of multiple professional bodies and associations, and possesses a diverse skill set, but not limited to proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, SPSS, Conflicts Mediation, and driving with a valid license among others.

His passion for youth development, empowerment, leadership and social cohesion has been a focal point since he began his journey in 1996.
