In a display of commitment to raising awareness about breast cancer, Stanbic Bank and Breast Care International Ghana joined forces to organize a charity walk that drew participants from all walks of life. The event, named the “Walk for the Cure” took place on Saturday October 7, 2023 in Accra.
Breast cancer is a prevalent and life-threatening disease that affects millions of women worldwide, and early detection plays a crucial role in improving the chances of survival. The walk was organized to emphasize the importance of early detection, promote breast health, and support those affected by breast cancer.
Participants, sporting white shirts and pink ribbons, gathered at the starting point with great enthusiasm. The walk featured a scenic route from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Office in Accra through the heart of the city. Speaking on the importance of creating awareness about breast cancer, Head of Affluent Banking at Stanbic Bank, Margaret Obimpeh said the aim of the walk is to encourage people to undergo regular checks for breast cancer.
“We have collectively recognized the severity of breast cancer and the life-saving potential of early detection. That’s why Stanbic Bank is proud to collaborate with Breast Care International Ghana for this walk. Our purpose is to reinforce the idea that together, we can win the war against breast cancer by keeping each other in check. Moreover, we urge everyone, particularly women, to prioritize regular check-ups, as early detection significantly improves your chances of defeating breast cancer.,” Margaret said.
Throughout the walk, educational booths and healthcare professionals were available to provide information about breast health, self-examinations, and the importance of regular screenings. These resources helped empower participants with the knowledge they need to take control of their own breast health.
