Rotary Clubs cut sod for construction projects in Ashanti Region

In line with its 60th anniversary celebrations, the Rotary Club of Kumasi in collaboration with The Rotary Club of Obuasi in partnership with the Rotary Club of Salem, Virginia USA have cut sod in Kona to pave way for the construction of 12 boreholes in Kumasi and 22 Boreholes in the Obuasi Municipality.

The project also includes 386 Microflash toilets for households in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. The President of the Rotary Club of Kumasi, Nana Effah Mensah highlighted that the funds for this Water and Sanitation project in was raised from the Rotary Foundation’s which falls under Global Grant, and it’s worth $223,000.

This falls under Rotary International’s seven areas of focus. They include;

Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention, Disease Prevention and Treatment, Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene, Maternal and Child Health, Basic Education and Literacy, Community and Economic Development, Environment Protection.

The president also urged the communities to take proper measures to maintain the facilities provided by the Rotary Clubs when completed.

He added that this project is amongst many other philanthropic projects Rotarians in Ghana and the world over undertake yearly. The club’s president again reiterated that the relentless efforts and commitments of Rotarians in Ghana over the years have seen Ghana gain the status of Rotary International District (District 9104) and hence praised the District Leadership led by the District Governor David Osei Amankwa for

gracing the occasion. The Queen-mother, Nana Amponsah Agyemang lll (Kona Hemaa) with the Kona Traditional Council, joined in the groundbreaking ceremony to commence the entire project. In her remarks, she thanked Rotary International and the three clubs involved for the kind gesture and promised to take good care of the project when completed.

Since its formation, the Rotary Club of Kumasi has undertaken several projects in Ghana which includes fully completed 6 Units classroom blocks for Agona Hiamankyene and also another 6 units classroom room blocks for Sawua community equipped with solar power, library and textbooks, ICT etc.
