Management and staff of MTN Ghana have presented a cheque of GH¢15,000 and some assorted drinks to Ndan Ya-Na Abukari II, the Overload of Dagbon, in commemoration of this year’s Damba Festival.

Airtime worth GH¢1,000, assorted drinks and packs of bottled water were also presented to the Overlord of Dagbon as part of the company’s contribution to celebrating the festival, and to foster unity and enhance domestic tourism.

The company also supported the traditional authorities to organise an inter-community gala, a grand durbar and some social activities throughout the festive period, which helped in enriching the activities earmarked for this year’s celebration.

Speaking after the presentation, Manager in-charge of MTN Ghana Retail Experience-North, Kwame Aseye Agude, said MTN has over the years placed importance on the things that matter to the people of Ghana – prominent among which is the celebration of festivals.

“Festivals reveal a lot about Ghanaian society, and are considered an integral part of Ghanaian culture. As a result, MTN has made it a duty to support many traditional authorities each year across the country, and to keep alive the values and principles which identify us as Africans,” he stated.

To provide distinct customer experience during the celebration, MTN has set up experience centres at vantage points to provide customers with enhanced customer experience while they celebrate, he noted.

“In view of the ongoing SIM registration exercise, we have a team to register customers who have their Ghana Cards. Mobile money registrations are also on-going for free.”

He stressed that the company is committed to protecting the purses of clients, and has therefore devised several security measures to curb fraud in the system.

“On the occasion of Damba celebrations, we wish the chiefs and people of the Dagbon long life, peace and prosperity. We look forward to a sustained partnership with you as you showcase your rich culture and traditional values through this festival celebration,” he added.

Public Relations Officer for the Palace, Yakubu Musah expressed gratitude to management and staff of MTN for supporting the celebration of 2023 Damba festival.

“Your continuous support to development of the palace and people of Yendi, by creating job opportunities for the youth, has built a strong relationship with Gbewaa Palace,” he said.

He further said the donation will go a long way to minimise pressure on the palace in meeting demands toward the festivity.
