Nana Kwamina Dekye I, Guantuahen of Shama Traditional Area, has called on indigenes of Shama to come together and support a cause that would bring socio-economic development.

He said development thrives when there is unity, peace and understanding in the community.

Speaking at the 3rd homecoming and fund-raising ceremony for the people of Shama in the Western Region, he explained that this year, the people have targetted to develop two new projects at different communities.

“At every homecoming, the communities come out with projects that would be beneficial to them, and one of our projects through this homecoming is the Police Complex we pride ourselves in,” he said.

The Guantuahen pointed out that the homecoming has awoken the people of Shama to sit up and plan for development to take place.

“This year has been very amazing, and the patronage has been great; we have had series of events, such as a float, football matches, a concert party, among others.

He encouraged the indegens of Shama within the country and overseas to support developmental projects since government alone cannot shoulder all the responsibilities.

The Guatuahen, who is also the Chief Executive of Lower Pra Rural Bank PLC and known in private life as Isaac Afful, charged the indigenes to be ambassadors of the only bank at Shama.

“Protect the bank because this is the only legacy we have here. We have majority of our workers coming from Shama and other neighbouring towns, save with us to be able to support your businesses and enjoy the benefits of some of our corporate social responsibilities, such as scholarships, among others”.

Ebenezer Dadzie, District Chief Executive of Shama, commended the Guantuahen of Shama for sustaining the homecoming.

He noted that there has been a lot of chieftaincy issues and petty squabbles within the Shama District and this did not augur well for the growth of the town.

“Had it not been the initiative of the Guantuahen for the homecoming in recent years, we would have been left behind, waiting for a new chief to be enstooled before some development could take place within our town,” he said.

Therefore, he advised the acting Chief of Shama, Nana Kwamina Wienu, the elders, as well as the people of Shama to resolve issues which do not bring change to the town.

He added that the district assembly would continue to support the homecoming since it brings about transformation.
