Following the success chalked up in Sunyani, GIZ’s Ghana Job Fair has been held in Kumasi and Tamale successfully – with hundreds of unemployed youths in attendance.
The one-day event was held under the theme ‘Connecting Talents and Opportunities’, and organised by the Ghanaian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration in partnership with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, among other partners.
This is to ensure that more youths are linked to sustainable job opportunities in the country
The Ghana Job Fair is a flagship programme held annually to offer opportunities for job seekers to acquire the necessary skills and mindsets for innovative and sustainable approaches; it seeks to build their employability in the fast-transforming employment space.
The Fair, described as a ‘Green Edition’, is meant to promote sustainable jobs – also known as ‘green jobs’ -in the country. Its core objectives are to boost eco-friendly and digital work, network between jobseekers and industry, and highlight government’s employment efforts to stakeholders from different regions of the country.
The Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, highlighted that government through the National Green Jobs Strategy aims to create decent and sustainable job opportunities for the teeming youth in Ghana.
“We appreciate the cooperation that exists between the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations and GIZ. It contributes to realising the two countries’ development objectives in the areas of employment promotion and sustainable development,” said Mr. Baffour Awuah.
The Ghana Job Fair seeks to build the employability of job seekers in the fast-transforming employment space. This year’s ‘Green Edition’ aims to promote sustainable jobs in Ghana, such as eco-friendly and digital work. It also aims to promote networking between jobseekers and industry players by highlighting the government’s employment efforts to stakeholders in Ghana.
Head of the Ghanaian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration-GIZ Ghana, Benjamin Woesten, in his remarks said: “The German government contributes to employment promotion in Ghana as a measure to help curb dangerous and irregular migration among the youth of Ghana, in line with outlined programmes of Ghana’s government”.
The Senior National Programme Coordinator for the programme ‘Migration for Development’ at GIZ Ghana, David Yaw-Mensah Tette, revealed that GIZ through the Ghanaian-German Centre and its partners including the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations are working to match job seekers with job opportunities in the country.
“We encourage graduates and job seekers to continue engaging with the Centre for further support, even after the Ghana Job Fair,” added Mr. Tette.
About the job fair
The Job Fair is organised by the Ghanaian-German Centre for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration (GGC), in partnership with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, the Labour Department, the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), and the Delegation for German Industry & Commerce in Ghana (AHK).
