Wheel of Life Series with Lady Sam: Have faith – your ice-cream van is coming

I wrote this article last year, and as we are now more than half way through the year I thought that it would be a good idea to look at the wheel of life as a tool again. The wheel of life helps you to appreciate the different areas of your life to see what you can do to restrategise or re-energise that area if need be.

I want to encourage you to start or continue (as the case may be) to define your goals for the rest of the year using ‘The wheel of life’. This tool looks at the different key areas that make up the different dimensions of your life. Find below the eight areas/steps to serve as guidance on how to improve your life.

Step 1. Spirituality. I want to start off by asking you a question: If you bought a phone and wanted to have a better understanding of its benefits and features, what would you do? If it were a Samsung phone, I am guessing that you wouldn’t go to the Huawei shop or refer to their handbook, right? You would either go to the Samsung shop or visit Samsung online for information on your new phone. It makes sense to go to the manufacturer when you want to know more about the manufactured. Therefore, shouldn’t you go back to the creator to find out more about your purpose as his creation? After all, the goals you set for the year should be guided by the bigger purpose destined for your life.

Step 2. Personal Development. If you want to develop yourself in a cost effective way, then why not take advantage of the numerous online courses? There are a variation, from language to cookery, to entrepreneurship, some of which are even free. Why not enquire and see what is out there to add to your skillset?

Step 3. Finance. Save! Commit to putting away a percentage of your income every month. If you are one who already saves every month, then commit to saving more because we all need to prepare for a rainy day.

Step 4. Family. Make that extra effort and check on your family – whether it is your Aunt who lives in a remote village somewhere or even a relative that you are living with. (You never know what people are going through).

Step 5. Social Life. We all need a form of escapism. We can now hang out with our loved ones virtually – whether it is happy hour, a book club night or just a catch up, the options are endless. The point is, we have the virtual option now so we really do not have an excuse not to hang out anymore.

Step 6. Relationships. If you are married, then you can send the kids to bed early and plan a romantic dinner for two indoors, or you can write each other poems and leave it under the pillow (you can use your spouses name as an acronym if you’re stuck). The key thing is to be creative, creative, and creative. If you are single, you can consider joining social network events online, in a safe manner, of course. Make an effort, be determined and you will reach your goal.

Step 7.  Career. If you have a job or have a sustainable business, then you really ought to take a moment to thank your maker. Many people have lost jobs and their businesses, and basically are having to re-invent the wheel, especially after these rough couple of years. Whether in a job or business, it is very key to seek feedback to know if you are meeting expectations. A two-way dialogue is crucial in maintaining and sustaining your job or business. Seek feedback, keep listening and stay relevant.

Step 8. Health. I am sure you have heard the saying that your health is your wealth. Without being in good health you would find it difficult to sustain the above steps. Good food and regular exercise form the basis for experiencing good health.
