St. Monica’s SHS wins maiden edition of AAMUSTED quiz competition

The St. Monica’s Senior High School, at Asante Mampong in the Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region, has emerged winners of the first-ever edition of the AAMUSTED quiz competition at Asante Mampong.

For topping the competition, they received a cash prize, certificates for the contestants, the school and a certificate for securing the first position. These were in addition to some customized exercise books and T-shirts.

The second and third-placed schools also received various cash prizes, certificates for the contestants and the school, customized exercise books and T-shirts while the fourth-placed school only received certificates, customized books and T-shirts.

AAMUSTED quiz competition, an inter-senior high schools quiz competition, was organized by the leadership of the Local National Union of Ghana Students (LNUGS) of the Akenten Appiah Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED), Asante Mampong Campus.

It targeted the four public senior high schools in the Asante Mampong catchment area. The schools include Amaniampong Senior High School, St. Monica’s Senior High School, St. Joseph Seminary Senior High School and Nsutaman Catholic Senior High School.

After a keen contest of five rounds, St. Monica’s SHS emerged the winner with 51 points, Amaniampong SHS was second with 46 points, Nsutaman Catholic SHS was third with 33 points and St. Joseph Seminary SHS had the fourth position with 25 points

The Local NUGS President, of AAMUSTED-Mampong, Bridget Bansah said the objective is to promote the study of Science and Mathematics while also encouraging healthy academic rivalry among senior high schools in the Municipality.

“The crux of this competition is that aside from it improving healthy academic rivalry among the competing schools and the promotion of STEM education, as the NUGS President of my institution, I think I must create that learning platform for students within this jurisdiction, who we look forward to seeing in higher education in the future. This is imperative,” she noted.

The NUGS AAMUSTED-Mampong chapter also intends to use the competition to strengthen the existing bond of friendship among the competing schools and the host University.

This initiative was also supported by the Principal of the College, Prof. Emmanuel Dartey, and the entire academic management body of the AAMUSTED, Asante Mampong campus.
