Cedar Mountain Chapel International (CMC), East Legon Assemblies of God, has been honoured with the Church of Excellence Award 2022 by The General Council of the Assemblies of God, USA, as a church that reflects the excellence of God in its ministry.
Being the first church in Ghana to receive such an award, the leadership led by Rev. Dr. Stephen Yenusom Wengam revealed that despite being a young assembly, the church will continue to develop innovative ways of empowering its members to take up leadership positions.
Receiving the citation on behalf of the church, Rev. Dr. Wengam joyfully dedicated it not to the hard work and innovativeness of the young congregation, but to the doing of God.
“To be frank, it came as a big shock because the president behind the institution that presented the award is chairman of the World Fellowship Assemblies of God; and Assemblies of God is the world’s largest Pentecostal body in the world with over 65 million members worldwide. This shows that we were not only selected based on our outstanding performance but by the divine mercy of God,” he said.
The award was presented to the church by Rev. Doug Clay, General Superintendent, Assemblies of God, USA, during an impartation service at its premises in Accra on January 7, 2022.
Rev. Clay, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the General Council of the Assemblies of God, USA, during the presentation amid cheers and excitement from members admonished the church leadership and members to continue being a vibrant local church with global impact.
The Lead Pastor pledged the church’s unwavering support to the kingdom growth through effective and innovative soul winning, leadership and the exhibition of excellence.
The Church of Excellence Award is a global annual award from the office of the Global General Superintendent, Assemblies of God, instituted to give churches a pat on the back for their good work. The recipient church must be one that reflects the excellence of God in its ministry. This includes using excellent and innovative means to reach the world with the gospel, delivering church services in excellent ways and reaching the unsaved with the true gospel of Christ.

As a church that believes in God for hard things, CMC is currently building a 6,000-seat auditorium with its accompanying modern facilities. This Cedar City is believed will be a home for believers who are seeking a church to fellowship, feel belonged, and be equipped and empowered with the word of God.
The church has contributed significantly toward the development of society. During the pandemic it provided relief items for over 5,000 people including pastors. Through its innovative soul-winning strategy, dubbed kindness evangelism, the church has been on the frontline meeting socio-economic needs of the vulnerable in society.
