Midway Clinic, a lead private general health service provider with over three decades experience in the health sector, has organized a free health screening and sensitization programme for the Good Shepherd Methodist Church and residents of North Kaneshie.

Established with the objective to provide high standard, cost effective and reasonable healthcare services to improve the health status of the community, the health institution thought it wise to support the church and the community as it marks its anniversary.

Speaking to the media at the event, Medical Director, Midway Clinic, Dr. Gifty Quashie-Ngessah, indicated that her outfit did not hesitate to partner with the church to embark on such an important exercise to mark the 42nd anniversary of the Methodist Girls Fellowship as it is in line with activities, they initially set out to do.

“Last year, we were 40 years and as part of that anniversary celebration we earmarked some programmes but because of COVID-19 we couldn’t execute all. And so, when the Methodist Girls Fellowship informed us about their 42nd anniversary celebration and wanted a health screening, we thought it wise to organize the free screening for them.

We started off with the women segment and so wanted to look at the kids, address some of the challenges they hard and educate them about female health among other things like hemoglobin level, weight & height, hepatitis, Malaria, sugar level and eye among others,” she said.

She added that beyond the one-day exercise, girls diagnosed with peculiar issues would be referred to the main health facility to continue with the treatment process. She advised the public to be cautious of what food they eat during this festive period as what they eat have great impact on their health.

Vice-Chairman, Circuit Youth Council, North Kaneshie Methodist Church, Eric Ofori Akyea, stated that the health screening for the girls’ fellowship as part of their 42nd anniversary celebration is to aid parents to know the health status of their children and be informed of what to do to stay healthy as a sound mind resides in a healthy body.

“We at the Good Shepard Methodist Church are very grateful to Midway Clinic. We have a very good relationship with them and every October they come around to undertake free health screening for us and this particular exercise is another kind gesture by the clinic to us,” he said.

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Midway and pleaded that the exercise be adopted and carried at annually.

Touching on the preparedness of the church in adherence to COVID-19 protocols ahead of the yuletide, he indicated that the laid down protocols by national authorities are important to the church and have been observed thoroughly from the beginning.

“COVID-19 protocols are of the highest priority to us and so since church resumed, the measures that the churches were asked to follow are still intact- one meter distancing, hand washing, hand sanitizing, temperature and record keeping are all still active. We will enforce these protocols to ensure that at the end of the celebrations nobody go home to die or find themselves in critical conditions,” he said.
