Positive conflicts in the workplace

Outward appearance is just the icing on the Image Leadership cake. Your fundamentals and personal hygiene which are the core of the Image Leadership cake itself are as essential as your clothing (the icing on the cake). Skin care, Hair care, Hands and feet care are the foundation without which your image cannot stand. Your image leadership must go through a process, starting from your fundamentals before your outward appearance which you show through your dressing.

In addition to feeling good about yourself, a good personal hygiene builds an uncommon confidence that every leader should have. Good personal hygiene is important for physical and mental health, as well as your social life. It can help you and the people around you prevent illnesses. A healthy person is happier and more productive so let us consider some basics of image leadership.

Good hygiene can help you feel good in your own skin, giving you confidence, assisting your social interactions and helping you to be engaged and productive in all areas of life. Good hygiene also helps to make your home, and public areas you visit, comfortable and welcoming environments. Good hygiene would not be possible without high quality effective products, as well as good hygiene practices. Good hygiene helps prevent illness caused by infectious agents, helps keep you looking and feeling good and keeps your surrounding clean and comfortable – hygieneforhealth.org.au.

Personal hygiene is simply looking after the body and keeping it clean and healthy. Your skin, hair, hands and feet reflect your health. Your hands is the first place to start your personal hygiene routine. You use our hands constantly during the day, touching many different surfaces, shaking hands with people, eating your meals, typing on the laptop or using a common work phone.

Naturally, your hands are the biggest carrier of germs. These germs that linger on your hands enter your body through the mouth, nose, eyes, or even ears. Infections are mostly caught when you put the dirty hands to these parts of the body. One of the quickest and simplest ways to ensure that you are safe from illness is to practice good hand hygiene. It can keep illnesses such as cold, cough, flu and gastroenteritis – these can all be contracted or passed on through poor hand hygiene at bay.

You can stop the spread of illness-causing germs by washing your hands frequently with water and soap. It is recommended to use warm water and dry with a clean towel. In case, you are outside, carry in your bag an alcohol-based hand sanitizer, it works perfectly. It should contain at least 60 percent of alcohol.

In observing personal hygiene, there is a guarantee that your body is kept clean at all times preventing harmful diseases. When you wash your hands constantly, regularly brush your teeth, cut your fingers and toenails and trim our hair nicely, you look clean and neat. You would not have to worry about diseases affecting you as you do not provide any haven for these germs to multiply and give you various diseases.

With personal hygiene, the body increases its germ-killing capacity. Good personal hygiene also means eating good food and in the right amounts. When you do this, your immune system become stronger to fight against any diseases that attack you. These are all benefits of personal hygiene to you, resulting in a happier healthier you.

Personal hygiene increases self-confidence and positively impacts personal relationships. Any part of your body that inhibits smell, needs taking care of to avoid anything that would lead to decision and discrimination by others as no one want to associate with anyone that has some level of body odor on them. Taking good care of yourself makes you feel better about you and builds your self-confidence when it comes to interactions with people at work, events, and even your love relationship.

legit.ng buttresses the discussion above, emphasizing that, good personal hygiene is directly related to fewer illnesses and better health. On the other hand, poor personal hygiene habits are known to cause some side effects, like body odor and greasy skin. However, they can lead to more serious health problems like scabies, pubic, head or body lice, diarrhoea, ringworm, pinworms, hot tub rash and others. Poor dental care will lead to plaque buildup, cavities and other issues. To prevent these side effects, develop good hygiene habits that can also increase your self-esteem. Maintaining good personal hygiene habits affects the social and psychological aspects of everyone’s lives, it helps us look more presentable and attractive.

The importance of personal hygiene consists not only in maintaining good health but also in looking more healthy and attractive to other people. There are physical, social and psychological benefits of personal hygiene. One of the most important benefits of maintaining personal hygiene lies in the social plane. Looking washed and smelling good has social advantages as others find such person more attractive and not dangerous to their own health. As for the psychological benefits, maintaining good personal hygiene makes a person feel more confident and increases self-esteem. It also shows our ability to care for ourselves and manage our time effectively.

As you prepare for the season’s festivities, remember that the COVID-19 war is still in progress. Stick strictly to the protocols:

  • Do not plan gatherings in small, constricted, or poorly ventilated spaces.
  • Try keeping the number of guests to a minimum and in-sync with the government’s guidelines on COVID-19.
  • Digital/virtual celebrations are ideal and preferable. Do not attend gatherings if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

Our hands also tend to dry out more quickly these days because of the frequent hand-washing and use of alcohol-based sanitizers in this season. Carrying along a pocket-sized hand cream or switching to a moisturizing sanitizer will go a long way to keep your hands from drying out.

Your mental wellness is also essential to your image. Your eyes reflect your going-through and your been-through. As this year closes out, you may have tight deadlines to meet, a fully booked schedule, deals to close before the New Year begins. However, it is still important to pay attention to your wellness as part of your image.

World Health Organization describes health as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Dark circles and other tell-tales of fatigue and stress, take away from your image. Resting, including fruits and vegetables in your diet and staying hydrated are key to your well-being and Image as a whole. It is important to take care of YOU!

Here are 4 ways to get started on building the foundations to your image leadership.

  1. SKINCARE

Treat your skin in a way that enhances its appearance. In our climate especially our skin is exposed to high temperatures and harsh conditions which could adversely affect its appearance.  Your skin is a reflection of your diet and hydrating habits. The tone of your skin should be even and clear no matter the color, so be mindful of the bath soap and body cream you use.

  1. ORAL CARE

Clean your teeth well and brush them at least twice a day is a good dental hygiene. Good oral hygiene helps prevent gum diseases, cavities and bad breath. Drinking water and following a good diet plan are also important to the health of your fundamentals and personal hygiene. Developing and maintaining a personal hygiene routine is key to having a healthy body and mind as the popular quote says, “A healthy mind lives in a healthy body.”

  1. GET ENOUGH SLEEP

Science has proven unequivocally that sleep is necessary for good health. This means you must develop healthy patterns through consistent sleep hygiene practices when it comes to sleep. Getting enough sleep is essential to your overall wellbeing. It is recommended that all adults should get at least seven to nine hours of sleep each night. Sleep is the most important contribution that you can give your body, even more than diet and exercise.

  1. CREATE A ROUTINE

In order to maintain good personal hygiene practices, it is best to create a routine. This way, you will make a daily list of things you need to do to stay clean and healthy; and make sure you continue to practice proper personal hygiene.

Taking care of your fundamentals and personal hygiene should never be underestimated as a leader; and as Mahatma Gandhi said, “It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.
