Abiola Bawuah, Regional CEO of UBA West Africa, has been adjudged CEO of the Decade at the just ended Ghana Business Awards held at Kempinski Gold Coast Hotel, Accra. She succeeds Edward Effah and Asante Twum of Fidelity Bank and MTN respectively.

Dubbed ‘The Digital Economy, Making More Winners’ and organised by Globe Productions, the awards scheme that is currently in its 4th edition recognises innovative contributions made to the business sector by outstanding entrepreneurs, CEOs and captains of industry.

At the event, 48 individuals received 65 awards for their contribution to the growth of business in the country.

The CEO of Globe Productions, Latif Abubakar, said the winners were selected by an independent advisory board that evaluated awardees based on key performance indicators (KPIs) including information technology and competitive pricing.

It goes without saying that the conferment of this award on Abiola Bawuah as its first female recipient is indeed a testimony of the giant strides which have been made to make room for competent female representation in the business sector.

She was recognised for her roles played in the banking sector as Executive Director of Zenith Bank, Deputy Managing Director of UBA Ghana before becoming its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Due to her excellence and achievements, she was elevated to Regional CEO for West Africa 1 – comprising six countries and later expanded to cover nine countries within the West African region.

First organised in 2018, the Ghana Business Awards were held in partnership with the Institute of Directors (IoD), Nobel International Business School (NiBS), Ipag Business School, Swiss Business School and Lincoln University with support from the Graphic Communications Group Limited and Media General.

Marufatu Abiola Bawuah has enormous experience in retail banking and marketing.  She holds a BSc in Actuarial Science from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, an LLB with honours from the University of London, a diploma in Marketing from GIMPA and an EMBA (Finance) from the University of Ghana; and also has numerous leadership qualifications from Harvard Business School, Columbia, University of New York, INSEAD and Institut Villa Pierrefeu in Switzerland.

At the 2016 Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana Awards, she was adjudged the CIMG Marketing Woman of the Year and subsequently went on to win the ‘Finance Personality of the Year Award’ at the Ghana Accountancy and Finance Awards barely two months later. Mrs. Bawuah is part of the Woman Rising inspiring list of Top 50 Women Corporate Leaders in Ghana.
