Minerals Commission Board visits Songor Salt Project

Members of the Minerals Commission Board have paid their first mining visit to the Songor Salt Project that is currently being redeveloped by Electrochem Ghana Limited in Ada.

The visit was for the Board to see what progress the company is making so far with its development of the Songor Salt.

Chairperson of the Minerals Commission Board, Mrs. Barbara Oteng Gyasi, said the Board is impressed with the work done, and noted that the project is in line with the president’s industrialisation agenda.

She reiterated that the Minerals Commission’s resolve as a regulator is to ensure that the Electrochem Ghana project succeeds – because, according to her, the project will not only benefit the Ada state but the nation as a whole.

Mrs.  Oteng Gyasi further encouraged Electrochem Ghana Limited to continue developing the area despite all the challenges.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Minerals Commission, Mr. Martin Ayisi, in his remarks also acknowledged the visibility of Electrochem’s work in Ada and its environs.

On his part, the Chairman of Electrochem, Dr. Daniel McKorley, in his welcome remarks explained the several community impacts Electrochem is already making.

He also mentioned that the company is continuing to engage the communities by educating them about Electrochem’s planned development and ongoing improvement of the Ada state, and plans to take Ada to the world so that the small percentage of people who are resisting and creating attacks will understand and work together with Electrochem in a peaceful manner.

The Chairman of Electrochem thanked the Minerals Commission for their timely visit and support.
There was a brief tour of the Electrochem site to see some of the salt pans which are crystallisers, and also the salt output during the visit.

Electrochem Ghana Limited is a wholly Ghanaian-owned and registered private company as a subsidiary of the McDan Group of Companies, with principal interests in salt mining, the chlor-alkali industry and production of agro-chemicals.
