Vlisco supports and participates in Queen’s Baton Relay

The Managing Director of Vlisco Ghana, Fatoumata Doro had the privilege of taking part in the Queen’s Baton Relay for the 2022 Birmingham Games when the baton passed through the shores of Ghana.

Fatoumata was the first to receive the baton in Tema on the second day of the three-day tour of the baton in Ghana.

She received the baton from Fredrick Lartey Otu, the Chairman of the Queen’s Baton Relay Planning Committee and 2nd Vice President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) at exactly 2:15pm on Wednesday Oct 26, 2021. The Tema leg of the relay started at the Valco roundabout and ended at the Tema Fishing harbour.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was the first person to receive the Queen’s baton from Nunoo Mensah, the President of GOC at the Jubilee House, Accra. Next to hold the baton was the Chief of Staff at the Presidency, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.

Other prominent personalities that took part in the relay included the British High Commissioner to Ghana, Harriet Thompson, the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter Twumasi; SWAG President, Kwabena Yeboah; Football legend Asamoah Gyan; Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist, Samuel Takyi; Musician Stone Bwoy and the Asantehene Otumfuo osei Tutu II.

Ms. Fatoumata expressed her excitement as a bearer of the Queen’s Baton Relay in Ghana.  She reiterated the hope that this relay will ‘champion the individuality in humanity and celebrate bringing people together across the world.’

She was appreciative of the GOC’s consideration of the Vlisco Group (GTP/ Woodin & Vlisco) as a worthy citizen to take part in this momentous occasion. The Queen’s Baton has since left Ghana to Cameroun.
