Shoppers at A&C Mall in Accra, will at the weekend have the opportunity to win different prizes when they shop and pay with GhQR. The customer awareness creation programme is slated for Saturday May 8 and Sunday May 9, as part the Mothers’ Day activities.

GhQR was launched in March last year as one of the newest addition to the several electronic payment channel available to the public in Ghana.  The number of merchants offering GhQR has more than doubled from less than 25,000 at the end of 2020 to over 51, 000 by the end of April this year. Over 16 institutions including banks, electronic money issuers and Fintechs have also enabled their customers to make QR payments at various merchant locations nationwide.

GhIPSS together with its partners have been using both social and traditional media to create awareness about the payment service. But in order to deepen the awareness creation, GhIPSS has put together the buy and win promotion at the popular A&C shopping mall.

Speaking in an interview, the Head of Realtime Payments Akosua Blay said a number of shops at the A&C mall have deplored the GhQR. She explained that any shopper who pays using the GhQR stands a chance of winning various prizes. She explained that apart of using the event to increase awareness about the new electronic payment channel, the event will also enable people to experience the ease and convenience of QR payments.  Madam Blay also said people who shop and pay through GhQR stands a chance of winning gifts that they can pass on to their mothers to mark the Mothers’ Day celebrations.

GhQR is an electronic payment channel that enables customers to scan displayed QR codes with their smart phones and pay, or dial displayed USSD codes with their phones to make payment. Ghana’s QR code for payment is universal which means that any customer whose bank or payment service provider offers the service can use it wherever it is displayed.

GhIPSS intends to rollout several other activities to deepen awareness about the electronic payment channel as well as drive its patronage.
