KGL Technology seeks far-reaching role in gov’t digitization programme

KGL Technology Limited, a wholly Ghanaian- owned company that has been at the forefront of providing top-notch technical digital services, seeks to play a far-reaching role in government’s digitisation programme with its exclusive platform.

The National Lottery Authority (NLA) collaborated with KGL Technology about a year ago for the latter to operate NLA 5/95 official short code *959# and other digital platforms, with the objective of advancing the digitisation of lotteries – an initiative that was successful and yielded immense profit to the NLA, which is in line with governments digitisation agenda.

Based on this background, the NLA is urging government to collaborate with KGL Technology to further enhance the digitalisation project of government, as KGL is cleverly resourceful in online marketing and digital service provision.

Government has been persistent with its digitisation agenda and promoting a cashless economy with initiatives such as mobile payment interoperability, paperless port system, GPS and the medical drone programme, just to mention a few.

According to NLA, government through its economic management team – the Bank of Ghana, Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems (GhIPPS), the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Communications, the National Communications Authority (NCA), the telecommunication companies and a licenced Online Marketing Company and Digital Service provider known as KGL Technology Limited – have done tremendously well to enhance the digitalisation Programme of government.

“Ghana has the baseline infrastructure such as Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGs), Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), POS Switches coupled with Mobile Money Interoperability, all aimed at achieving digitalisation of the Ghanaian economy.

“However, we would like to recommend to government and other relevant stakeholders that one of the practical ways to further enhance the digitalisation project of government would be through collaboration with KGL Technology Limited – a licenced online marketing company and digital service provider responsible for operation of the digital short code *959#,” Razak Kojo Opoku, I/O Psychologist, licenced by Ghana Psychology Council/Head of PR Unit, NLA indicated in a statement.

He added that the *959# has proven to be a very robust platform capable of providing other important digital services apart from the usual business of generating revenue for the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

“The digital short code *959# has been well-marketed, and the brand has an outstanding base with the potential of serving as a purpose vehicle for other services; such as but not limited to: payment of water bills through collaboration with Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL); payment of electricity bills through collaboration with ECG; payment of cocoa farmers through collaboration with COCOBOD; and registration of TIN, aimed at ensuring voluntary tax compliance – which would be done through collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA),” he iterated.

Mr. Kojo Opoku emphasised that the NLA believes effective collaboration between KGL Technology Limited and government of Ghana – through the Economic Management Team, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation and other organisations such as the ECG, Cocobod, Ghana Water Company Limited, Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) etc. – would help to further strengthen the provision of digital services, e-commerce and the overall digitalisation project as championed by the government of Ghana.
