Prez Akufo-Addo justifies $150 cost of PCR test per airport arrival

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, says that the conduct of the ‘Polymerase Chain Reaction’ (PCR) test, required for all passengers who arrive at the Kotoka International Airport(KIA) has come to remove the cost that would have been incurred to go through the 14-day mandatory quarantine.

This comes after he reveled that some twenty-six COVID-19 positive cases have been detected, out of a total of ten thousand and sixty-one passengers tested, on the reopening at the KIA.

The President, who was speaking in his 17th COVID-19 nationwide address, noted that despite the criticism of US$150 per passenger, for the mandatory test, acknowledged the value of the test in its speed, accuracy and savings for passengers.

“It is worth noting that a lot of people, who have experienced at first hand the service being offered at our international airport, have praised the country for the innovation and farsightedness on display at our airport,” he said.

He pledged to do everything possible to protect Ghanaians and “stop the importation of the virus into our country, or limit and contain its spread.”
