About 44,000 candidates in regions of the north take part in BECE

Three regions in the northern part of the country, namely: Northern, North-East and the Savana has presented 43,899 for this year’s Basic Education and Certificate Examination (BECE).

Out of the Number, Northern Region presented 29,074, North East Region, 9,042 while Savana also presented 5,783.

The candidates, from 990 public and private basic schools are made up of 23,614 males and 20,285 will take the exams at 157 centers.

The Regional Director of Education, Dr. Peter Attafuah, who was accompanied by the Metro Director of Education, Regional Minister Salifu Saeed and other stakeholders visited some of the examination centers within the Tamale Metropolis and Tamale Municipality and encouraged the students, teachers, parents and guardians on the preparation for the candidates for the examination.

“Today marks the beginning of this year 2020 BECE and you are the candidates well prepared to take the exams. All that we want to say is that we wish you well. Take this examination seriously because I know you are all prepared and the questions are very easy for you and you are going to write and pass. So as you enter the exams hall, do not go in with any foreign material,” he advised.

He further urged the candidates not to panic but rather focus on the exams with prayers.
He also urged the invigilators to be vigil to avoid any examination malpractices and also not to put fear in the students but do their work as expected to ensure a fruitful exercise.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has called on candidates writing this year’s BECE to exhibit a high sense of discipline and desist from all forms of malpractices that could lead to the cancellation of their results.

‘We hope students would comport themselves before, during and after the examination by exhibiting a high sense of discipline, thus frowning on all forms of examination malpractices which have the tendency of frustrating your future.”
