Passion is the difference between having a job or career and it is beautiful when passion comes together with a career. Most people have spoken about how they built their career based on their Choices, Chances and Changes. In effect, you make a choice and take a chance to see a change!

“It is never too late to follow your dreams and to find your passion. The simple formula would be to figure out who you want to be, what you want to do, what inspires you and then you do it,” said Tracy Afia Baah.

A mother of two amazing children, Tracy is the proud owner of Brushes N Contour, a makeup business opening its new ultra-modern makeup and photo studio at Spintex Road next to the Oil Point Pharmacy at the end of August 2020.

Tracy, a goal getter, independent lady who is quite inquisitive described herself as persuasive in achieving her set goals. “I like to shape things into ways that makes it easier to work for me. I am sensitive, affectionate and interested in research to abreast myself with current trends. People say I am fun and very lively, however I am usually quiet until you get along,” she added.

Born into a family of four children, Tracy grew up in Nigeria, precisely Lagos State with her family.  The family, which hails from Akim Oda in the Eastern Region relocated to Ghana she was twelve years and had completed her primary education. In Ghana, she attended the Aggrey Junior Secondary School then proceeded to Accra High School for her high school education.  She proceeded to IPMC for a professional course in Graphic and Website Designing.

According to Tracy, she was one of those cool kids who envisaged becoming a medical doctor, lawyer or banker as her profession with dancing as her side gig. As fate will have it, her dad couldn’t afford her fees when she obtained admission to study at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and that opened a different chapter in her life.

“It was initially difficult for me however it opened my eyes to a lot of things when I had to start a couple of front office jobs which I enjoyed and put in my all to make sure I perform excellently. I fell in love with colors and weddings. I make that conscious effort and got into the event industry and got to work with one of the best event planners in Ghana, Gloria Buckman Yankson of Planit Ghana,” she revealed.

Tracy discovered her deeper love for events and partnered with her best friend to start planning and managing their own events under the brand name Kanala Events. She became fascinated by how beautiful their brides looked on their wedding day; she couldn’t get over it and wished to be part of the process of getting them to look glam on their special day.

Determined to become a Makeup Artist, Tracy spent nights and days on YouTube watching makeup tutorials for two years before traveling to Nigeria to upgrade her skills and also learn the rudiments of the trade under the tutelage of one of the best Make Up Artists on the continent.  She returned to Ghana to start her professional journey and that marked the genesis of her brand, Brushes N Contour.

About the role her family played in who she is now, Tracy said “they have been very supportive, especially my mum. She always tells me if it is my passion, I should go for it and make the best out of assuring me of her support at all times. They always motivate and encourage me to go all out and be the best in what I have decided to do.”

Her advice to people who wish to become makeup artists is to get the best brands at the beginner stage of their craft regardless of the amount of money they will invest, as it will help them do a great job.
