Ms. Cecilia Dapaah, Minister for Aviation, has advised the Volta Regional Coordinating Council to develop a business plan to market the yet-to-be-commissioned Ho Airport.
She asked the Council to consider official launches in nearby Republic of Togo, Benin and Nigeria to promote the Airport and open up the Volta Region.
Madam Dapaah gave the advice when she paid a working visit to the Airport to ascertain the readiness of the facility for official opening by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
The Minister said she was impressed with work done and said what was needed was for the VRCC to market the Airport and sensitise the locals to patronise it to grow the local economy.
She also asked the VRCC to ward off Fulani Herdsmen who operated within the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) acquired land.
Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister commended Amandi Investments for completing work on the project and said, “I’m also happy that government has also paid all debts. We have cleared everything. We are not owing anything. What we need now is commissioning.”
He assured of the readiness of the RCC to develop a business plan to make the Ho Airport the choice for business people and tourists, saying, “…2018 is an action year as Volta Region opens up for investors”.
Mr David Metz, Ho Project Manager, Amandi Investments said the Airport was ready and that the only concern was activities of Fulani Herdsmen.
The 25 million dollar project funded by the GACL is to boost economic activities and tourism in the Volta Region.
The project, which was initially scheduled for completion in September 2016, has 1,900-metre runway, traffic control tower, 1,150 capacity passenger waiting area, ultramodern air bus terminal and an automatic fire detection system.
With the slogan, “Ho Airport, the New Destination,” the facility is expected to host domestic and commercial flights and open up the Region for economic growth.
