Standard Chartered Bank Ghana has launched this year’s edition of SC Trophy, a 5-aside football tournament organized for some key clients and media partners, that will see the overall winning team compete for the global trophy at Liverpool’s iconic Anfield Stadium.
The SC Trophy football tournament is hinged on the Bank’s Liverpool FC sponsorship and an opportunity for Standard Chartered to reinforce its partnership with the five-time European champions.
The winners of the Ghana Tournament automatically win a chance to take part in a once in a lifetime opportunity to play in a soccer tournament at Anfield, the home of Liverpool FC in the English Premier League.
Speaking at the launch in Accra, Asiedua Addae, the bank’s Head of Corporate Affairs Brand and Marketing, said this is the third time the bank is organizing the tournament and express her excitement regarding the opportunity it will give winners to play in Anfield.
“We are pleased that once again we will be giving our cherished clients and media partners a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience one of the greatest football stadiums- Anfield. And Really excited that the winner of this year’s event will directly qualify for Anfield, unlike last year when there was a regional event after the Ghana tournament. So, we expect all clients to do their very best,” she said.
In all 16 teams are expected to partake in this year’s competition. The teams are drawn from a number of corporate organisations where only employees with ID cards are eligible to play. Ms. Addae insist that due to the prize at stake, the organisers are going to be very strict on the rules of the competition.
The local tournament is expected to come off in late March subject to the availability of a Liverpool FC legend to partake in a soccer clinic for kids – while the Anfield tournament is expected in mid-May, 2018.
The Standard Chartered Trophy 2018 Tournament also provides local markets with a platform to actively engage its clients, media partners, staff and stakeholders with winners of the local competition being provided an all-expenses-paid trip to Anfield, the home of Liverpool FC.
Whilst at Anfield, the winners will watch the LFC vs Brighton & Hove Albion match and take part in a training session at the LFC Academy to prepare for the final tournament where they will be joined 7 other teams from different countries to compete for the overall top team.
GNPC emerged winners of the last competition but they were not able to make it to Anfield as last year’s format required they make it via a regional competition where they lost to a team from Nigeria.
