Harmony Attise, the Founder and CEO of Commec Group, a business development company, has explained the importance of taking up the challenge of supporting small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) and entrepreneurs.

Miss Attise noted that COVID-19 impacted businesses regardless of the size and influence, rendering operation conditions less promising and debt struck, hence the need to provide support to the business ecosystem.

She emphasised that Commec is a business development firm running into its 10th year of operations and has consistently provided SMEs, startups, and thriving entrepreneurs, the relevant and strategic business solutions and packages.

“We have worked with these small businesses and owners for years, we understand the trends of the industry, the huge changes in business activities, and the future of business due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is therefore our responsibility as a company established for the needs of SME industry to provide the ecosystem, support, and information they need to maximize their productivity and sustainability,” she said.

Furthermore, she elaborated on initiatives of her company over the past years to ensure success of SMEs, one of which highlighted the failures, and successes of young entrepreneurs and their endeavors called, the Youth in Focus Project which ran for over two years- sharing the stories of young achievers in the country and the small business weekend, among others.

The SMEs sector is a major backbone of middle-income countries, providing 70 percent employment and representing 50 percent of developing countries’ GDP; hence the need for an effective, reliable, and innovative ecosystem to solidify their operations is not far fetched.

In marking the United Nations World MSME Day 2021, Miss Attise and her team have been working towards creating a long-term initiative to support their SME clients and other SME owners. In line with that the team launched the ‘Sunday  Business Club’ initiative for SME owners to be provided with business information.

“The Sunday Business Club is a highly professional club that also has a group on WhatsApp platform and Facebook for small business owners to conveniently request business information, support, network, partnership opportunities, and engage other small business owners,” she stated.

Miss Attise further tasked MSMEs to keep creating opportunities for others no matter how small it may seem. Adding that the club is opened to partnerships, sponsorships for future events, projects, and more to create an adequate ecosystem for enabling MSME business success.
