Fabrimetal plants 1000 trees for environmental conservation

Fabrimetal Ghana Limited, a leading manufacturer of high quality high tensile iron rods, has planted 1,000 trees to contribute to government’s agenda of planting five million trees under the National Green Ghana Project.

The Green Ghana Project is a presidential initiative aimed at encouraging Ghanaians and friends of Ghana plant trees to preserve the country’s forest and vegetation cover for a balanced ecology.

The initiative, which is spearheaded by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, is expected to cost the country some GHC125 million.



As part of its commitment to environmental preservation, Fabrimetal in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Forestry commission planted 1000 seedlings across their vast office field in the Prampram district.

In his remarks, Managing Director for Fabrimetal, Raj Rohit said is commitment to preserving the environment through the increased preservation of tree cover. He said the tree planting exercise is the company’s way of protecting the eco-system against adverse degradation.

Mr Rohit encouraged more citizens to participare in the tree planting exercise whenever the opportunity arises. He said “planting more trees is a worthy cause because trees help build resistance to the harsh climate conditions and serve as noise barriers as well. Therefore protecting the environment is a core activity of our business. We have done this in various ways and this tree planting exercise has come to broaden our mission to protect the environment”.

Speaking on behalf of the CEO of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie a representative from the Forestry Commission, Mr Kwame Adjei said the forestry commission is guided by the vision to leave future generations with better wildlife resources. He said the commission rides on the  collective aim of helping government to plant five million trees this year,

“We support Fabrimetal to achieve this ambition that they have. Trees are very important and we require our trees for clean air, good soil and fight climate change. Together we can reach our desired goal of a clean and safe environment for all of us. It is our hope that every Ghanaian will have the responsibility of planting more greenery to support the eco-system and preserve our lands and natural resources”, said “Kwame Adjei”

In his keynote address, the District Chief Executive, Mr Teye Doku expressed appreciation to Fabrimetal saying “On behalf of the District Assembly through the President of the Republic, I will like to thank Fabrimetal for collaborating with the Ministry and Forestry Commission for this wonderful programme. I’m impressed they’re not here to not only do business and make profit but are considerate of the environment.”

He encouraged that after planting the trees, there is the need to focus more on sustainability. He said this exercise must not be in vain and encouraged that the trees need periodic attention of watering and weeding it off of weeds and pests.

“As we go on to use the land for our personal and corporate use, let’s also make sure we make space for trees and plants. The district assembly has been meeting with the traditional councils to find ways to sustain our environment”, he assured.

Irene Opoku from the Environmental Protection Agency Tema East Region expressed that the EPA is proud to be a part of the campaign of supporting government’s target of planting five million trees. She said “We are excited that Ghanaians are beginning to appreciate the importance of trees and the benefits go beyond geographical boundaries.

Irene Opoku also advised that there is the need for a working system that will sustain the trees planted.
