Children Believe, a Canadian charity organisation, has supported the Northern Regional Health Directorate with personal protective equipment (PPE) and other kit as part of efforts to boost the morale of frontline workers at the community level.
The items worth 50,000 Canadian dollars are to be distributed to 16 health facilities in four districts of the region – Tolon, Gushegu, Nanumba North and Saboba – to help enhance quality healthcare delivery and also enable health workers to protect themselves while serving their communities.
The items include 400 boxes of sterile examination hand gloves, 380 boxes disposable face masks, 280 packs of overalls, 20 boxes of doctor’s scrubs, 20 gallons of 5-litre hand sanitiser, 20 Veronica buckets, 20 unit boxes of infrared thermometers, and 48 gallons of 5-litre liquid soap.
The beneficiary facilities are Kpatinga Clinic, Gushegu Hospital, Gaa CHPS Compound in the Gushegu district, Tolon Hospital, Wantugu Health Centre, Gburimani CHPS and Gbulahagu CHPS Compounds in the Tolon district
The rest are Bimbilla Hospital, Pusuga and Dakpam CHPS Compounds in the Nanumba North district, as well as Demon, Kpalba, Nyani, Namongbani, Sambuli and Kunkong health facilities in the Saboba district.
The NGO also provided training for staff and residents on proper use of the PPE and the kits at hospital and community levels to ensure proper use of the items to achieve the intended purpose of curbing spread of the virus.
Handing over the items to the Regional Health Directorate, the Communication Manager for Children Believe, William Anim-Dankwa, said the welfare of health workers, children and parents are of importance to the organisation.
He said inadequate support for the health sector hampers activities of the health workers in ensuring quality healthcare delivering for citizens, and that government alone cannot provide the needed resources to health personnel – hence the need for individuals and organisations to collaborate with government to achieve quality healthcare delivery.
It is the fourth time since outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic that Children Believe has supported the health directorate. The support falls under the Maternal, New-born, infant and Child Sustainable Health Efforts project – PROMISE project – funded by the Christian Children’s Fund of Canada (CCFC), now Children Believe.
“Children Believe creates a future of hope for children, families, and communities by helping them develop the skills and resources to overcome poverty and injustice. For nearly 60 years, we have followed the example of Christ by serving the poor regardless of their faith, cultural and ethnic background. We also help empower children to access education, stand up for what they believe in, and be heard in a way that excites people to join our work,” he added.
Dr. Braimah Abubakari, Deputy Northern Regional Director of Clinical Care of the Ghana Health Service who received the equipment, commended the organisation for its gesture; saying the items will go a long way in motivating the workers to do their best for mother Ghana.
He also lauded the then CCFC for the enormous strides made toward bringing an end to maternal and infant mortality through the provision of medical supplies and tricycle ambulances to aid the facilities. He assured that the items will be used effectively for their intended purpose.
Other staff of the organisation present at the ceremony included Madam Theresa Baveng, Programmes Manager; Zita Adumpo Office Administrator; and Alexis Ayelepuni, Technical and Monitoring Officer at PROMISE.
