FirstBank Ghana has donated GHȼ50,000 to SOS Ghana, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting vulnerable children and families, as part of the Bank’s commitment to supporting children and communities in Ghana.
The donation was received by Eugenia Serwaah Cobbina, the Fund Development Manager of SOS Ghana, who expressed deep gratitude for FirstBank’s commitment to the organization’s mission. “We are truly appreciative of FirstBank’s support, which will go a long way in helping us continue our work to uplift children and families in need,” said Eugenia.
Victor Yaw Asante, Managing Director/CEO at FirstBank Ghana, stated, “supporting the well-being of children has always been a priority for FirstBank. We are honoured to partner with SOS Ghana and lend support to SOS Ghana to ensure the long-term sustainability of their critical programs.”
SOS Ghana has been facing budgetary challenges as a result of reducing funding from especially external sources, a situation that affects its implementation of programmes for the benefit of the children’s villages and community projects.
To address this, SOS Ghana established an Endowment Fund as part of its 50th anniversary celebration last year to raise funds. Eugenia, in explaining the vision for the SOS Ghana Endowment Fund said, “Our target for the first three years, from 2025 to 2027, is to raise $5 million, and then we aim to reach $10 million by 2030. This will allow us to invest the funds and only touch the principal or interest in extreme emergencies, ensuring the continuous support of our beneficiaries.”
FirstBank Ghana’s support comes at a crucial time, as SOS Ghana seeks to engage more Ghanaians and benevolent organizations to contribute to the endowment fund.
“We are calling on Ghanaians and corporations like FirstBank Ghana to make one-off or recurring donations to this endowment fund. This will not only help us now but also secure the future of the children and families we serve,” added Eugenia.
Through this partnership, FirstBank Ghana and SOS Ghana are demonstrating their shared commitment to creating a brighter future for Ghana’s children and communities. This donation is a demonstration to FirstBank’s dedication to social responsibility and its role in driving positive change.
