OmniBSIC Bank, a leading financial institution, as part of activities to promote fitness and well-being, has organised its seventh edition quarterly health walk over the weekend at the University of Ghana Stadium in the heart of Accra.
The bank argues that in today’s fast-paced world, it is easy to neglect physical activity due to busy schedules and sedentary lifestyles.
However, incorporating regular exercise into one’s routine can have numerous health benefits, including reducing the risk of chronic diseases, improving mental health and boosting energy levels.
The exercise – which brought together over a thousand enthusiastic participants from diverse backgrounds, including OmniBSIC employees, representatives from other corporate organisations, students and the public – aimed to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle as a living being.
CEO of OmniBSIC Bank Ghana, Daniel Asiedu, underscored the importance of regular exercise to the body in maintaining a healthy lifestyle, reiterating the bank’s unwavering commitment to stakeholders’ well-being as good health is a key requirement for economic productivity.
“Exercising your body cannot be overemphasised, people are having all kinds of health issues with their body and anytime they visit the hospital; doctors urge them to exercise but the majority of people don’t even exercise at all. So, we as a bank want to create the awareness that people must take their health seriously. Exercising is a necessity,” he said.
Touching on the distance covered and its significance, he said: “This morning, we have walked about 12.8 kilometres and taken about 16,800 steps. On average, an individual needs about 10,000 steps a day; so if we do over 16,000, it is very good for any participant”.
Additionally, he emphasised that this health walk is held once every quarter; however, the significance is about taking exercising very seriously and doing it regularly to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“Taking interest in your own body and exercising regularly is beneficial because it prevents frequency to the hospital and sudden health breakdown,” he enlightened.
OmniBSIC Growth
The CEO of the bank took the opportunity to highlight some key performances of the bank in the local market over the years.
OmniBSIC posted impressive results in 2024, with a two-fold rise in profit and a robust balance sheet, consolidating its ability to support the economy and businesses to expand.
“If you look into our books as OmniBSIC Bank, our growth has been phenomenal and this has been reflected in the change of our tagline to ‘We are not just another bank’ because everything we do is unique,” he said.
He elaborated that the bank’s mobile banking app has just been launched onto the market and it is a unique app that can perform several financial transactions for customers.
“I want to encourage customers and the general public to try our mobile app and see the difference. So, officially our mobile app is up and we are looking forward to making a strong impact in the local market,” he reiterated.
He concluded that the OmniBSIC health walk is the best in the country compared to all the others, an indication that the bank stands out as the best in whatever it sets out to do.
“We stand out as the best in whatever we do. This activity is all about awareness, so if the public is enthusiastic about it, we can increase it from quarterly to maybe twice a quarter and we can easily record 5,000 or more in the coming editions,” he stressed.
Why that stadium?
The CEO indicated that the bank anticipated a turnout of over 3,000 participants and as such needed a bigger space that could accommodate all the people in a comfortable and befitting manner; hence, the choice of the University of Ghana Stadium with over 11,000 seat capacity and spacious surroundings.
“It has been a successful health walk and the numbers are over 3,000; and with these numbers, Legon is one of the best places to be.”
