AWMA celebrates Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as Ghana’s first female vice president-elect

The Alliance for Women in Media Africa (AWMA) has congratulated Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on her historic achievement as Ghana’s first female Vice President-elect.

This monumental milestone is being celebrated as a defining moment in the nation’s political history, marking a significant step toward greater recognition and representation of women in leadership roles.

In a statement issued today, December 10, 2024 signed by Mercy Catherine Adjabeng, Convenor, AWMA lauded Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s dedication, perseverance, and leadership, which have shattered long-standing barriers for women in politics.



As a distinguished academic, former Minister of Education, and a role model for women, her accomplishment signals a transformative era for inclusive leadership in Ghana.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s election is being hailed as a victory for gender equality and a testament to women’s ability to excel in the highest offices of governance.

AWMA emphasised that her election highlights the importance of women’s representation in leadership, ensuring that women’s voices are heard and their issues are fairly addressed.

“Her expertise and experience broaden perspectives, foster innovation, and diversify the pool of talents available for national development. Most importantly, her leadership exemplifies the transformative impact of inclusivity,” the statement said.

AWMA believes that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s achievement will inspire more women to pursue leadership roles and challenge societal norms.
