Ghanaian players abroad have been delivering impressively week in and week out this season, despite the inability to replicate that for the national team when offered the opportunity; and this weekend was nothing less.
Five of them were on the scoresheet for their various individual clubs, while Joseph Paintsil was instrumental to MLS side LA Galaxy as they emerged the MLS Cup Champions in 2024.
Black Stars forward, Inaki Williams, scored for Athletic Bilbao in their 2-0 win over Villareal in the Spanish La Liga. In the same league, Abdul Mumin played 90 minutes for Rayo Vallecano in their 1-0 win over Valencia.
In the Premier League, Tariq Lamptey scored a screamer for Brighton in their 2-2 draw against Leicester, in a game that Jordan Ayew saw 62 minutes of action for the opposing side. His performance has been impressive since his return from injury, providing an assist as well in the previous game.
Kamaldeen Sulemana made a brief appearance for Southampton in their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa, while Thomas Partey played 90 minutes for Arsenal in their 1-1 draw against Fulham. Antoine Semenyo played 90 minutes for Bournemouth in their 2-1 win over Ipswich Town.
In the German Bundesliga II, Ransford Yeboah Konigsdorffer scored his seventh goal of the campaign in Hamburger’s 2-2 draw against Darmstadt. Christopher Antwi-Adjei saw 32 minutes of action for Schalke in their 4-2 win over Paderborn.
In the Bundesliga, Moritz-Broni Kwarteng saw 19 minutes of action for Bochum in their 1-0 loss to Werder Bremen.
Elsewhere in Austria, Ghanaian duo Emmanuel Agyeman and David Atanga were involved in Wolfsberger AC 2-1 win over LASK. Ibrahim Mustapha saw 25 minutes of action for LASK Linz while Winfred Amoah scored to propel St. Polten from behind to beat Floridsdorfer AC 3-2 in the Austrian 2 Liga.
In Belgium, Ghanaian duo Francis Abu and Lawrence Agyekum were involved in the Cercle Brugge game against Royale Union, which ended in a draw. Mohammed Fuseini was also in action for Royale Union SG.
In Cyprus, David Abagna was in action for APOEL in their 2-2 draw against Omonia. Emmanuel Lomotey and Richard Ofori were involved in Achnas 2-0 loss to Pafos, while Alex Sarfo and Eric Boakye were involved in Aris Limassol in their 2-1 win over Paralimni.
In Greece, Abdul Baba Rahman scored for PAOK in their 4-1 win over Panserraikos.
Elsewhere in Israel, Ebenezer Mamatah and Montari Kamaheni were involved in SC Ashdod’s 3-1 loss to Maccabi Haifa. Matthew Cudjoe also saw 63 minutes of action for Sakhnin in their 1-0 defeat to Hapoel Jerusalem.
In Netherlands and Portugal, Ibrahim Osman saw 30 minutes of action for Feyenoord in their 3-2 win over Waalwijk, while Samuel Obeng made a brief appearance for Casa Pia in their 1-1 draw against AVS, respectively.
Switzerland came alive for a couple of Ghanaian players. Ghanaian goalkeeper Lawrence Ati Zigi was in action for St.Gallen in their 1-1 draw against FC Basel, Jonas Adjetey saw 79 minutes of action for Basel, and Daniel Afriyie played 71 minutes of action for Zurich in their 3-0 defeat to Lausanne.
In the USA MLS, Joseph Paintsil scored for LA Galaxy in a 2-1 win over New York Red Bulls to emerge champions.
