Shama Senior High School (SHS) has benefitted from a 10-unit classroom block from Tullow Ghana Limited.
This is to ensure a conducive atmosphere for students’ effective teaching and learning.
The company has invested US$10million in a 5-year project to improve the educational infrastructure of 15 selected SHSs.
The project’s aim is to construct dormitories and classroom blocks that address the infrastructure deficit in senior high schools across the country.
According to Mrs. Cynthia Lumor, Deputy Managing Director-Tullow Ghana Limited, the decision to invest in educational infrastructure was based on research conducted in 2019 – which revealed a pressing need for improved infrastructure due to the increase in student population and inadequate dormitory facilities at various SHS in the country.
“Tullow Ghana Limited, collaborated with stakeholders in education including the Ministry of Education, Ghana Education Service and local communities to implement this US$10million investment project,” she said.
Mrs. Lumor emphasised that Tullow’s focus on STEM education is meant to enhance students’ abilities in various schools.
She encouraged students to uphold the school’s reputation and focus on their academic work.
She also urged them to take advantage of their potential and strive for excellence.
She commended teachers at the school for their dedication and advised them to continue equipping students with quality education.
Madam Theresa Dickens, Headmistress of Shama Senior High School, expressed gratitude to Tullow Ghana for the new facility – which includes a science laboratory that has made it more convenient for science students to receive practical training.
She pledged to ensure proper maintenance of the facility and encouraged other corporate bodies and philanthropists to follow Tullow Ghana’s example.
Nana Kwamina Wienu II, Acting President of the Shama Traditional Council, advised students to embrace discipline, emphasising its importance in becoming responsible adults and patriotic citizens.
He also encouraged students to stay informed about technological advancements and appreciated Tullow Ghana for their efforts at promoting education in the coastal areas, particularly for completing the significant structure at Shama Senior High School.
