The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to recruit 10,000 qualified personnel to work in various schools nationwide.

These recruits will serve as kitchen assistants, security guards, and teaching assistants in secondary, junior high, and primary schools nationwide.

The Deputy CEO in Charge of Operations at YEA, Alhaji Bashiru Ibrahim, stated that this agreement is the third of its kind between YEA and GES. Previous MoUs were signed in 2015 and 2018, nurturing a strong working relationship between the two entities.

Under the new agreement, YEA will recruit 4,000 kitchen assistants, 4,000 security guards, and 2,000 teaching assistants. This recruitment drive aims to strengthen staffing levels in schools across the country.

He said, “This MoU is for the YEA to assist the GES to run educational services effectively; and in doing so, they need requisite staff, hence the YEA is coming on board to assist the GES in some respective areas by recruiting teaching assistants, kitchen assistants and security guards for schools.”

Alhaji Ibrahim explained that the MoU enables YEA to support GES in delivering effective educational services by providing the necessary staff.

He noted that teaching assistant recruits must hold a minimum qualification of a Diploma certificate and will receive a monthly allowance of GHC1,000.00. Security guards and kitchen staff will receive GHC 500 as a monthly allowance.

The YEA is supporting the GES with part of its entitlements under the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

He used the opportunity to also encourage prospective applicants to apply for the listed vacancies.

The Deputy Director General – Management Service, at GES, Mr. Stephen Kweku Owusu, expressed gratitude for the YEA’s collaborative efforts, emphasizing the positive impact of recruiting 10,000 personnel on alleviating staffing pressures within the educational sector.

He believes that the recruitment of 10,000 personnel will significantly augment GES staff and alleviate pressure on existing staff, thereby enhancing teaching and learning outcomes in schools.
