Jadarls Foundation, a subsidiary of the Jadarls Group of Companies, has donated relief items to victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage at Mepe, Volta Region.

This act of kindness was prompted by reports that the humanitarian aid provided by donors to the Lower Volta Basin was not reaching all those affected by the flooding. The Foundation made efforts to reach out to less visited areas and distributed much-needed sanitary products, water and food supplies.

The Foundation’s donation, which aligns with the global Sustainable Development Goals and humanitarian aid initiatives, is set to make a significant impact on the lives of affected people.

Programme lead for Jadarls Foundation, Davida Pappoe, in an interview stated that the donation was aimed at women and girls in the affected areas. The Foundation provided bags of purified water and sanitary pads. Again, each household was given buckets and water purification tablets, ensuring the affected communities have access to safe drinking water.

According to Ms. Pappoe, the gesture will not only address present needs but also set the groundwork for a healthy future. She stated that because the local water-bodies have been polluted, adequate water is required for their upkeep. Other items distributed to the victims included soap, toilet paper, food and other essential sanitary supplies.

Ms. Pappoe noted that promoting proper hygienic practices and protecting the community’s health is a significant responsibility for the Foundation.

The Human Resource Manager at the foundation, Robert Justice Ayee, indicated that the Group’s Chairman recognised the urgent need to support flood victims. He stated that their strategy is to distribute the items directly to those in need, ensuring that the affected receive adequate relief.

He also bemoaned the lack of sufficient education and preparation for the spillage that resulted in the disaster.
