The atmosphere was charged and the crowd was high on the party vibe and great music at the 2023 edition of the Area Codes Jam held at the West Hills Mall. The Area Codes Jam made the Founder’s Day holiday a celebratory and memorable one for patrons of the mall.
Human traffic at the mall was unprecedented as revellers trooped to the venue to enjoy quality music and engage with on-air personalities of Ghana’s foremost and pace-setting urban radio brand, Y 107.9 FM- Accra. With an unbeatable line up of artistes with unrivalled musical catalogue, the West Hills Mall was definitely the most ‘litty’ place to be on Founder’s Day.
The six-hour community musical concert kick-started with performances from a myriad of hypemen and DJs from the esteemed YFM brand. These performances buttered the crowd up and elevated their expectations. Nockus, Kojo Manuel, Adjelebi-Bi the General, AJ Ahenkan hyped up DJs Ganj, Loft, DJ Big Kris and DJ Nyce in an unprecedented fashion.
Revellers could not get enough of them and kept asking for more. The smiles and energy they displayed at the event grounds really showed how excited they were to have the Area Codes Jam in the community. Artistes from the Weija community got the chance to mount the stage and treat their community to their hit songs, which sent the crowd wild.
Nana Appiah, Nana Yaw Bills, Barbieriqa, Kobby Gasei, Raddi Music, Easy Montana, Crispen, Yaw Darling, Yaw Dhrone, Kweku Winner, 6ixty and Kweku Mortey were among a number of artistes who warmed up the stage for the party set. The party vibe was taken a notch higher when Ephraim, BoyDoe, Joint 77, Addiself, Lali x Lola, Guru and others took turns to set the stage on fire.
With cool breeze and weather a bit chilly, songstress Sista Afia mounted the stage to treat revellers to some of her hits including ‘Weather’, ‘Jeje’ ‘Paper’ and a couple of her amazing numbers.
B4Bonah took over from Sista Afia. He proved that although he has been off the music scene for a while, he is still golden. The ‘Dear God’ and ‘Devil is a Liar’ hitmaker served the crowd with some bars and it was a sight to behold. The rebranded EL, always full of energy took his turn on the stage and you could hear the crowd chanting his name and singing along his every number.
Increasing the atmospheric pressure was musical duo, Keche. They proved that, indeed, they were a tried and tested duo in Ghana’s musical space.
Ghana’s ‘Minister of Enjoyment’ D-Black would not miss this community concert for anything in the world. He pulled up and made sure the crowd was served with nothing but the best in music. There can be no concert in Ghana without the ‘Sugar Cane’ hitmaker, Camidoh. With his gifted vocals, the musician serenaded music lovers and got the women screaming with joy, and singing along to his every song.
The 2023 Area Codes Jam was indeed party goers gold as they had a time of their lives. Some lucky revellers also took away gifts and prizes from sponsors – HD+ Ghana, Gold Circle Condoms and Flex Condoms.
Head of the YFM Triangle, Osei Kuffour, said: “As usual we have shown that YFM is the life of every party. We deemed it important to celebrate the founder’s of our motherland with a musical concert filled with a lineup of local artistes. As a champion for everything Ghanaian, we know we should celebrate our country; and we will always make a conscious effort to do so.
“We also, as usual, gave community and underground artistes the platform to shine, and this is one of our many ways of discovering new Ghanaian talents. We urge all media brands to organise such events to promote our motherland, and the continent at large.”
