The government of Israel has expressed its readiness to establish more demonstration farms to train local farmers, in a bid to boost food security.
These farms will serve as knowledge-sharing platforms, allowing farmers to learn new techniques and adapt them to their specific contexts by using Israeli technology.
Head of Israel’s Economic and Trade Mission to Ghana, Yaniv Tessel, announced this when he paid a working visit to the Northern Region.
The visit was led by Agrihouse Foundation, to explore collaborative opportunities that go beyond technology transfer in various areas which can contribute to sustainable development of the agriculture, agrotechnology and food production sectors among the two countries.
“With collaboration, we can build resilient agricultural systems and drive sustainable growth in the region and the country,” Mr. Tessel said.
According to him, the dedication to fostering economic progress by value chain actors in the region for development is very inspiring.
He therefore called on stakeholders for collaboration to harness the opportunity to deepen understanding, explore synergies and create a roadmap for sustainable collaboration, by leveraging the respective strengths and forging enduring partnerships between Ghana and Israel.
“We recognise the unique opportunities and challenges that Tamale and the surrounding region present. We are eager to engage in interactive discussions and gain a deeper understanding of your specific needs, aspirations and potential collaborations,” he said.
Regional Director, Department of Agriculture Hajia Hawa Musah – who represented the Regional Minister Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu – appealed for the envoy to continuously assist local farmers and value chain actors with technologies that will help grow their businesses.
She also encouraged the envoy to use the office to invite more investors from Israel to Ghana, in order to inject some funds or needed technologies to support the region.
Hajia Musah encouraged the local businesses and youth to position themselves to grab the opportunities to grow their businesses in order to contribute in the country’s development.
Executive Director of Agrihouse Foundation, Alberta Nana Akyaa Akosa Sarpong, said the essence was to liaise the mission with local industry players and farmers in order to forge partnerships.
“Through partnership, we have been able to link some input dealers and others to the Israeli investors for business engagement,” she said.
Some stakeholders and the value chain actors present expressed gratitude to Agrihouse for their good work in linking the local industry players to foreign investors and markets.
