13th edition of Family Fun Run and Walk held to mark 66th Independence Day

Happy FM-Lakeside Marina Park hosted its 13th annual Family Fun Run and Walk, an event that promotes healthy lifestyles and celebrates Ghana’s Independence Day. The run and walk, which comes off every March 6, covered 6km and 10km distances around Ashaley Botwe in the Adentan Municipality.

The event was not just a race, but a fun-filled day that brought families and individuals together. Participants were treated to a nutritious breakfast to fuel their bodies after the heartwarming race. The organisers also planned a range of exciting activities for participants to enjoy, including a football game, a cannon ride on the Marina Park Lake, among other exiting sporting activities.

The atmosphere was electric as participants of all ages and backgrounds took to the streets to showcase their endurance in running and walking. The race was fiercely contested, but in the end, Emmanuel Boateng emerged as the fastest man with a time of 23 minutes 14 seconds. Ubeidatu emerged fastest woman of the day with a time of 28 minutes 32 seconds. Ebtsam Dakmar won the prize for the fastest child with a time of 49 minutes 41 seconds.



The Sobo family took home the Fastest Family Award, completing the race in an average time of 33 minutes 25 seconds. Gabriel Atsu Avevor was the winner of the Fastest Over 60 Years Award, finishing the race in an impressive 30 minutes 38 seconds. William Steel and Adwoa Steel proved couples who run together stay together. The oldest runners finished with a time of 45 minutes 30 seconds and 58 minutes 90 seconds respectively.

Mercy Social Centre also proved their mettle by winning the Fastest School Team Award (Junior Category), while Lakeside University won the Fastest School Team Award (Senior Category).

Ernest Boateng, the CEO of Global Media Alliance, reiterated the importance of the Family Fun Run and Walk, stating that: “The Family Fun Run and Walk is an important event that not only promotes a healthy lifestyle, but also fosters family bonding. We are thrilled to see so many families and individuals coming out to participate in this year’s event. We believe that this event will inspire people to adopt healthy habits and make fitness a part of their daily routine”.

Director of Lakeside Estate, Salah Kalmoni, expressed appreciation to runners and families for taking part in this year’s event. He charged Ghanaians to adopt the regular exercising strategy to promote bonding and healthy living.

The event was a resounding success, with participants leaving feeling energised, inspired, and motivated to continue leading healthy and active lifestyles. The organisers are already looking forward to next year’s event, promising an even more exciting and fun-filled experience. The event proved to be a fantastic way to celebrate Ghana’s Independence Day while promoting healthy habits and family bonding.
