Meditour Travel and Hospitality Services, in partnership with the South African High Commission, has launched their maiden Medical Tourism travel package in Accra.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, executive director of Meditour Travel and Hospitality Services, Mr. Russell Banful, indicated that his company’s aim is to help Ghanaians access quality health care in advanced medical facilities with well-trained experts right here in Africa.
He said the health of every nation is paramount to their productivity levels, but Ghanaians in general are reluctant to undergo regular check-ups. He believes this can be made hassle-free and fun through medical tourism.
“According to doctors, the most efficient way of sustaining and improving our health is by having regular check-ups, since early detection of diseases helps to nip them in the bud.
“Nevertheless, you will bear me witness that in Ghana a culture of regular check-ups is virtually non-existent.
“That is why our company, Medi-Tour Travel and Hospitality, has put together a wonderful and innovative package that ensures you can receive thorough medical check-ups, care and treatment from specialist doctors, and also have lots of fun doing it as you enjoy a line-up of fun activities in South Africa,” he stated.
The Ghana-SA Chamber of Commerce also showed their solidarity and admiration for the package Meditour Travel and Hospitality Services has put together. The Chamber’s president, Mr. Grant Webber, described it as “a wonderful entrepreneurial venture” as it will promote the movement of people, trade and investment between the two countries. He reiterated that the chamber believes it is a timely initiative and fully endorses it.
Declaring the initiative’s official launch, the South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Grace Mason Jeanet, expressed her excitement at the prospect of medical tourism and how it will foster bilateral growth for both Ghana and South Africa. She encouraged guests and the general public to take advantage of the great packages to visit South Africa for health and leisure. She emphasised the importance of Ghana and South Africa collaborating on all levels, especially given the devastating effects of COVID-19 on Africans, our health and economies.
The Meditour package includes visa application services, return ticket from Accra to Johannesburg, 5-star hotel accommodation, full executive medical check-up, Airport pick-up and drop-off, Medical facility drop-off and pick-up. Packages also include leisure activities such sightseeing, quad-biking, adventure, shopping and others which can be arranged upon request.
Mr. Dalamba, Counsellor-Political of the South African High Commission, was praiseful of the initiative. He stated that the medical tourism initiative “has the support of the South African High Commission, Ghana-South Africa business council and South African Tourism”.
In attendance were members of corporate Ghana, private individuals, diplomatic community in Ghana, media and representatives from various industry players in the aviation and insurance sectors.
