The voluntary participation in the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme has been extended again to Tuesday, January 31, 2023, as the government scrambles to restore the country to macroeconomic stability.
The previous deadline was set to expire at 4:00 PM on Monday, January 16, 2023.
Citing consensus building, Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, said the move will allow for further stakeholder engagement.
“Building consensus is key to a successful economic recovery for Ghana. Pending further stakeholder engagement with institutional and individual investors, recently invited to join the debt exchange programme, the government is extending the expiration of the DDE to Jan 31, 2023,” a tweet from the Office of the Finance Minister, and seen by the Business and Financial Times (B&FT) read.
The move has come as no surprise as significant pushback from various classes of investors guaranteed that the prudent 80 per cent buying threshold would not be met by the January, 16 deadlines, similar to previous deadlines set for December 19 and December 30, 2022.
