JACCD Design Institute Africa, formerly Joyce Ababio College of Creative, held its 27th graduation ceremony at the school’s premises at North Legon.
The event, which saw 120 students graduating, brought together prominent dignitaries, including the Deputy CEO of National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Abigail Swad Laryea and the Business Manager for Kzet Ghana, Ronald Kizito.
Speaking under the theme: ‘Job Creation and Sustainability in this era, the Role of Creative Entrepreneurs as the World Economies Face Challenges’, the Deputy CEO of NEIP, Ms. Laryea, urged the graduands to be firm in their journey as entrepreneurs and reiterated government’s commitment to supporting entrepreneurs by creating over one million jobs through the You-Start Support Programme, which is currently being piloted with a capital injection of GH¢10billion.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Joyce Ababio, the CEO of JACCD, disclosed that out of the 120 students who were graduating, 90 percent represented females whereas 10 percent represented males. According to her, 90 percent of the great designers in Ghana and beyond come from her school and she is very confident that this year group will also make her proud.
“You cannot come to JACCD and not do well after an intensive training and practicals. We teach the basics of everything, and with the quality of teachers we have here, we always get the results we need. Apart from fashion, we offer courses – like interior decor, film-making, make-up and many others – that make JACCD unique. The students have a fair idea of all the things we do here, and they decide which ones they want to major in,” she said.
