The Minority in Parliament has called on the Majority group to support a motion that the Minority intends to move in the House, to impeach the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori -Atta.
The call came following a petition from some members of the Majority, seeking the finance minister to be sacked from office due to poor economic management.
According to the Minority, the call is long-overdue, adding that it was not enough to petition the President, urging members to join forces to move a motion before the House that will give Parliament the power to impeach the minister.
Addressing the Parliamentary press corps in Parliament today, Ahmed Ibrahim, the first Deputy Whip of the Minority, and MP for Banda noted that the Majority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, made the decision of the motion known at meeting held by the Business Committee of Parliament yesterday.
“I see their press briefing long overdue. As representatives of the people and as duty bearers, we must move a motion to call for the head of the finance minister.
So if our brothers in the majority believe in this, what they should do is to support the call and the motion from the Minority Leader for the dismissal of the finance minister.
You need two-third (2/3) majority of parliamentarians to sack the finance minister,” he said.
