Zero Waste Bosomtwe joins World Clean-up Day at Damang

Zero Waste Bosomtwe, a sanitation organisation, in partnership with four Youth Development Associations in the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipality of the Western Region have undertaken a clean-up exercise to mark World Clean-up Day.

Water and Sanitation Teams managed by the various assemblies also joined the clean-up, and with support from Gold Field Ghana Foundation through the Abosso Fold Fields (AGL) Damang Mine cleaned health centres, social-grounds, the chief’s palace, Zongo area, market centres; and desilted choked gutters among others.

Justice Frimpong, leader of Zero Waste Bosomtwe, in an interview with the media explained that the youth Development Associations which are from Damang, Huni Valley, Bompieso, Amoanda in the Municipality have been supporting this initiative over the past two years.



The initiative, according to him, started with one youth group but now includes three other communities, and he is hopeful that within the next few years it will be expanded beyond the municipality.

He commended youth groups for embracing the clean-up with all their enthusiasm in ensuring that the communities are clean, and commended AGL-Damang for their support over the years.

Eric Doe Ackuayi, Senior Community Affairs Officer at AGL-Damang Mine also praised the youth groups for their support in ensuring that the environment is clean and devoid of waste.

He is hopeful that the event will rekindle the spirit of volunteerism and be a driving force to maintain good environmental practices in the communities.

He said Gold Fields Ghana Foundation seeks to promote development in its host communities in the areas of water and sanitation, and will continue supporting them for development to thrive.
