Hollard Group Ghana, a leading enterprise in the insurance industry has organised a mentorship clinic for students of University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Sunyani to help prepare them for the job market.

The mentorship programme involved exposing the students to the dynamics of the working world, including where and how to attract decent employment opportunities, work ethics, and the possible shocks and how to adapt.

The one-day event formed part of the implementation of a three-year partnership agreement between Hollard and the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, UENR. The two institutions signed the five-module agreement “Hollard X Academia” in 2021.

Hollard has already held similar mentorship clinic for students of University of Ghana, the University of Cape Coast (UCC), and the Ghana Institute of Journalism.

Speaking to journalists on the side-lines of the programme, Iddrisu Nashiru, Managing Director of Hollard Assurance Life, stated that the overall goal of the mentorship was to assist students in developing the necessary skills and mind-set required to enter the rapidly changing employment space.

He said, “The programme has helped build the confidence and the mind-set majority of the students which hitherto were lacking the needed understanding and overview of the working environment out there. It has also helped to unearth some prospects that could be recommended for employment after school.”

The Vice Chancellor of UENR, Prof. Elvis Asare Bediako, advised the students to take advantage of the opportunity presented by Hollard to equip themselves with the needed knowledge before they complete school.

He said “a reliable and sustainable employment require the right discipline and practical skills and that mentorship offers you the right platform to achieve that aim.”

He commended the Insurance company for the partnership which he noted will bring mutual benefits to the school and the company.
