Today, Ghana marks an important milestone – 65 years of freedom from colonial rule. The founding fathers, together with the people of the day sought independence to ensure that Ghanaians began to steer their affairs and be the shapers of their own destiny.
This shared sense of purpose was instrumental in the fight for liberation in every part of the continent.
With a long and checkered history marked by oppression and slavery under rulers who did not acknowledge their rights to live to the best of their abilities, independence for most across the continent meant the freedom to put in place a well-laid structure built on our rich culture and value systems for the success of every citizen.
This is the pride of every country, the reason we prioritise our independence celebrations.
Travelling from the south-eastern part of Africa to settle in the western arm has allowed me the opportunity to see and experience the diversity in cultures within the continent. Personally, these few years of transition have been great exposure and helped expand my understanding of the world.
Moving to Ghana in 2019 has been nothing short of a rewarding and exciting experience. 65 years after independence, Ghana has kept on moving toward economic stability and democracy and is still among the fastest-growing countries in Africa with an economy that is growing rapidly. The country has made enormous efforts to remain ethically, economically, politically, and demographically different despite the many challenges. Ghana is indeed a beacon of hope and success.
I have learnt a lot about the Ghanaian culture, history, and traits of her famously hospitable people and I can confirm, firsthand, that reports of the warmth of the people do not do them enough justice.

On this special day, we uphold the great name of Ghana in celebration. A big Happy Birthday to our motherland Ghana! Kudos on being a pacesetter in the continent.
